4 weeks today we'll see what Sony have been cooking up in their R&D labs over the past 12 months. Hoping for minimal leaks to be honest as I'd love Sony to hit us all with a world first for mobile and leave me wanting to part with my money.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head

I personally agree with you but the timing is THE most stupid timing for Sony or any other in the game except for Samsung. Samsung is THE only manufacturer that sells MORE phones and at a much higher per unit pricing than Apple (unless I'm mistaken currently)! And even THEY choose not to release the Galaxy S7 Nor the NOTE 7 in the same month, Just why do you all think that is?
I just don't want another copy cat in handset design following Apple's humble designs. I LOVE their ecosystem, their phones and I can see their direction but it's like Hilary Clinton's speech wardrobe; boring not bold enough and I think she CAN be bold.
Let's see the radical design's Sony or SonyEricsson USED to be known for.

Sadly I don't think Sony will make it This year has really been catastrophic with the x-series.
First Sony is not a local market to any 1 country - please everyone let's try to see Sony as a conglomerate.
Sony's BIGGEST assets and game play is in:
Gaming (PS4 and the PSN/PlayStation Network)
Movies (They have a HUGE industry here more than a LOT realize!)
TV (Televisions: home, Stadiums, large hotel chains, specialty builds etc)
Camera/Camcorders (Consumer, Professional, special use cases: like deep underwater).
Sony's CEO made a HUGE push for the Entertainment division (Gaming, Movies, etc) yet recently the past 2-3Qtr's pulled back on the smartphone division participating on gaming. This is a HUGE folly especially against iOS gaming and the likes of Android. Some may feel this was a smart play considering the huge success of Nintendo's Pokemon Go on both platforms.
here is where I see going to gain HUGE success:
Gaming: Push PlayStation Neo + PlayStation 4 with VR headset this fall.
Mobile: PlayStation VR headset should've been trimmed down in size for compatibility with their SmartPhone lineup - Samsung is going to KILL it here and this will hurt Sony's Movies division here. Sony has had 3yrs in the VR space with 4 prototypes and one that was VERY sleek like glasses and that R&D could've been put to incredible use for the smartphone space. This would've tie back in Playstation mobile into their smartphone lineup. Partnerships with 3rd parties to bring a secondary or complimentary experience from their PS4 gaming to the VR headset on mobile smartphone connection (this would include a HUGE library of assets from Nintendo coming up)
> Samsung wants a phone strapped to your head: you're gaming and BOOM you have an SMS/EMAIL or CALL on the screen = horrible experience! Sony could've had the phone in your pocket and the glasses. Anyone ever see a conference room glass windows go white or dark instantly with a trigger switch? (Now I got you thinking)
Movies: Look for new movies (indie movies, low budget with powerful story lines, arches, etc that can hit home at a Cannes Festival and the like worldwide). Increase distribution channels and partnerships!
TV get back into the homes Better and Tougher than leather. Get back into boardrooms get back into your competitors smartphones screens!!!! Profits are to be made here.
Camera/Camcorders: Get in BIG with global military contracts!!! You can charge whatever you want!

Sony has the best developers and games for the PS4 as well as licencing and rights to exclusive titles. Gran Turismo VR or Asphalt VR? No contest. The thing is, will Playsation VR have anything to do with Xperia? I wouldn't want my phone to interfere with my gaming nor would I use a headset for Android quality games. I would watch a movie with the headset but that's all. There will be some integration with Xperia but there's no point releasing a smartphone version when they have the proper Playstation VR. |

To have a great success you do not need to make 10 different phones... look at Apple
It will be better is Sony concentrated to one or 2 phones a year... but make them the best!

honestly. they don't even need to be THE best.
Let's look at the two most successful manufacturers:
Apple does not have the highest specs. they have horrible battery life. but their phones just work, they take good pictures, and there are a million accessories for them.
Samsung likes to use the latest and greatest specs but also their battery life is not so great. their software is horrendous and ugly. their phones take good pictures and they have gimmicky features most people don't use.
These two are pretty much on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of specs and meet in the middle when it comes to battery life and camera performance.
But what they both have in common most of all is MARKETING. They do it a lot and they do it well. They make sure the general public know about their phones and get excited about them. Sony wants each of their phones to be an experience and for the most part they are IF you actually pick one up and use it. Apple and Samsung want their phones to be a status symbol, a fashion statement. That is the difference and that is why they are more successful and sell so many phones. Sony simply does not spend the money on marketing nor do they have the cash to compete in that realm with the big dogs.
Their strategy right now isn't flashy but it's working for them. If they can maintain their market share and at least squeeze out a small profit, I think that's a success for Sony. I just want them to continue making phones because I DO use them and I personally enjoy the experience, which is why i keep coming back.
