I would recommend looking at The Verge review.

And here:
http://forum.xda-developers.c[....]ctures-quality-t3217766/page29

There is a more serious and informed guy taking really good shots.
I have no idea what is going on with some of the websites.
It's really confusing. I see a great promise of Z5.

I will REPEAT myself:
I've seen identical thing with Z2. Mixed reviews, some bad photos,
big internet discussion. Many camera updates.

I have Z2 and I know it's camera can kick ass.
In almost any scenario.
Just some skills and knowledge.

hahahaha
the devices on the eprice blind test have been unveiled...

i'm glad to be proven wrong.

picture E is actually the z5. GOOD GOOD GOOD!!

curiously, the worst performing in the bunch is the panasonic dedicated digital camera.

http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/102/4956763/1/

even eprice appears to have different qualities for the z5s they are testing.

The G4 smashes the competition in that test.
Too bad the G4 is one ugly phone in leather and plastic material.

The Z5 is just meh, no real improvement over the Xperia Z3 which I am using right now.
For me it just feels that Sony just don't want to get the camera department right. They deliberately make things worse to not interfere with its compact camera business. I know it was that during the Sony Ericsson era.

Really??
Ok so here we go, Night/Low light samples from GSMArena Z5 versus G4

G4

Z5
by doministry, on Flickr

That would be it about "smashing" the competition, like Z5.

Again now daylight.

G4_2

Z5_2

This is not TOTALLY fair because G4 had better daylight and more light in the dusk shot.

But still, IS IT SMASHING Z5?
For my eyes - he.l no!!!

Yes Z5 may be a bit more "fuzzy" on edges.
BUT THE DETAIL IS SIMILAR on both phones in both scenes!!!
You may prefer any of them - that's Fine! - but there is definitaley no big difference!
I think they're close.
And G4 also is softening images on edges.

Look also here and see, again, all the 3 phones are quite close here in performance.

@doministry
i think he's referring to my post on the eprice blind comparison.

here's the link:
http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/102/4956763/1/

i'm really happy with this blind comparison. the voters may not have voted for the z5 but the quality of the z5 shots here is impressive or at least great enough. it's not like those shots taken by gsmarena.

i can't wait for photographyblog's review of the z5.
that's the only blog that actually examines the full potential of the cameras. it shows camera performance across different ISO levels.

I think Z5's pics are just "okay" but definitively not a catastrophe.
It's better than Z2 and Z3/Z3+ but it should be by a large margin.
And about G4, well... It's the best for now but without the LED.
G4's led performance is the worst by far. (i had one)
Are you nervous?

after galaxy s2 i owned Z and Z1 then Z3 and i waited for Z5 But all reviewers complain about
1- camera edge not clear and the picture its self lost of details compare to S6 or G4
2- battery life is behind S6
3- performance not far away from Z+3
now i buy Galaxy S6 edge+ and i'm using it for one week and i can see its perfect phone and i hoped Z5 smashing S6 but they still behind them

There seem to be a hardware issue in some z5 and z5c camera reported in sony official z5 forum that make mostly the left side blurry in landscape and the top blurry in portrait: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5[....]-on-the-left-side/td-p/1043401
That might be the reason for why the verge in the review praise z5 and z5c camera and well as other hands on photo results like gsmaarena ifa z5 shoot and other reviewers say the camera is ok but not great.
I hope the premium version doesn't suffer the same issue!

So very interesting results:

http://www.androidauthority.c[....]camera-shootout-winner-650299/

Again no shame for Z5. Good to read all of it.
In same cases Z5 could win without oversampling.

But what's funniest? LGG4 was the worst according to 8000 readers
iPhone the best - completely off the website's marks.
That says ALOT.

one from android authority looks great. I have a feeling that most other manufacturers problem also have QA issues, its just that this is a Xperia topic so you see all the xperia complains here. I know people with G3 died after using it for a week. Lots of LG defects actually, not specifically on the cameras.

Woohooo!

Bell exclusively selling the Sony Xperia Z5 on October 29
Source: http://mobilesyrup.com/2015/10/20/bell-xperia-z5-october-29/

Bell is set to be the only Canadian carrier, and potentially the only Canadian retailer since Sony shut down its retail operations, to carry the Xperia Z5.

The company announced today that it is bringing the Xperia Z5 to Canada for $199.95 on a 2-year contract and $649.95 outright starting October 29th.

Sony announced the Xperia Z5 at IFA in September, making the largest aesthetic and functional change to its product line since the original Xperia Z back in early 2013. Sporting a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a brand new 1/2.3″ 23MP rear sensor with an F2.0 lens, the device is a big improvement over the Xperia Z3. Elsewhere, Sony’s outfitted the “waterproof” handset with a 2,900mAh battery that promises two days of uptime, along with a 5MP front-facing camera, all running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.

Bell is releasing the Xperia Z5 in white and black models. No word on whether the Xperia Z5 Premium or Compact is coming to Canada this fall.

Sweet! I have a corporate contract with Bell so this is a GOOD thing. Pricing is sweet too. the only issue is I want the compact.

I've taken a good look at the various camera tests now and I think the blame goes to Sony. Tests for Superior Auto show that it isn't great and that is what 90% of users will use, you want to whip out your phone and take a quick image without messing out with night mode or low light whatever. The Auto implies that the phone decides for you and that is how I want it to be, I cannot be bothered with manual settings because I know I wouldn't be good at it. The fact is that SA needs to be better. In defense, I have a Z1C and I've done all my photo albums in SA which to me look awesome when I print to 4x6 size. I cannot fault it despite reviews saying its average at best, I just recently took some amazing wet shots of Niagra Falls.

For me, the Z5 would be great and the photos would meet my expectations. I have no doubt that I'd be happy with the end results but I'll wait for the 6.0 update and some more reviews. I'm not an early adopter of phones anymore because of quality control issues that Sony has. It looks like the Pocketnow unit has a crap module and they'll write an honest review saying that the camera is disappointing, you can't fault them for that and I suppose other units have crap modules. That's on you Sony, only the people of Esato, Xperiablog or XDA will be aware if there are defective units and not the general public.

The truth is that if you take the reviews so far, iPhone and S6/Note 5 produce better images. The module is capable if its not a dud so its a software issue. The images don't have to beat them but the gap needs to be smaller I'm afraid.
