Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Release Date & Specs Rumours: Upcoming Flagship Takes On UHD Display, Drops Quad HD

By Marie Athena Parnada on April 28 2015 11:14 AM

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 With Ultra Voilet Rays Tracking Sensors Reuters

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is rumoured to come out with a 5.89-inch UHD screen display with 748 pixels per inch. Plus, its companion device, the Galaxy Note 4 Edge, will allegedly be launched with a smaller 5.78-inch UHD screen with 7.62 pixels per inch.

If these rumours pan out, then it looks like the Note 5 and the Note 5 Edge units will sport the best smartphone displays in the market, especially with the highest resolution that exist today. However, to date, there has been no confirmation regarding these reports.

Plus, the particular advantages that a UHD display may have over a Quad HD display still remain unclear. Although it may be true that more pixels may make the unit more enjoyable, it could also be equivalent to a much shorter battery life. Apart from that, the device might also be attached to a very high price – making it a less affordable unit.

To date, the rumour mill says that the Note 5 might be out by the end of this year. Phone Arena is convinced that once the latest flagship does finally come out, it will be featuring the highly awaited UHD screen.

To prove that such displays were being created, the Korean tech company confirmed during their Analyst Days presentation that they had already started working on the production of UHD displays, according to Uber Gizmo.

Unfortunately, they did not state which particular units they will be applying the new displays to. However, since the Galaxy S6 and the Note 5 are two of the brand’s more notable devices to be released this year, it is not surprising at all if they get the best screens that can be offered. That said, since the Galaxy S6 has already been released and it featured a QHD display, it can be assumed that the UHD screens will be going with the Note 5 units.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Note 5 tipped to join curved screen revolution

By Matt Hanson

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have just been launched to pretty much unanimous critical acclaim but that hasn't stopped Samsung from planning the Galaxy S7, and it looks like its next flagship smartphone will feature even more curves and flexibility.

It appears that the positive reaction to the new devices, and especially the Galaxy S6 Edge which features a screen that curves over two edges of the handset, has led Samsung to expect huge sales of next year's follow up, the Galaxy S7.

Because of this, the Samsung Display division is expanding to meet the expected demand, according to South Korean website ETNews.

High hopes

An unnamed source reckons Samsung has requested 8 million flexible panels a month in preparation for the Galaxy S7. ETNews' report also claims that the Galaxy S7 won't be the only Samsung handset to get a curved screen, as apparently the Galaxy Note 5 – which is expected to launch later this year – will also come with a flexible OLED edge display.

Samsung is also working on improving yields for the Galaxy S6 Edge's curved screens, which should mean that getting hold of the popular device will soon be much easier.

Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 “Plus” leak out

By Jacob Kleinman |
April 29, 2015

The Galaxy Note 5 isn’t expected to arrive until later this year, but the upcoming phablet may have already leaked online. The device recently surfaced in an IMEI database along with a surprise Galaxy S6 variant.

Both new handsets are listed by their model number, which we can use to guess what Samsung has planned. First up is the SM-N920F, which sounds like a likely successor to the Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910). The device has apparently been code-named “Noble.”

Rumor has it the Galaxy Note 5 could pack a 5.98-inch Ultra HD display with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels. The company is also expected to offer an Edge version of the device with a slightly smaller 5.78-inch curved screen.

Meanwhile, the SM-G928S, code named “Zen,” could be a close variant of the Galaxy S6 (mode number SM-G920). GSMArena suggests it could be the Galaxy S6 Plus, though it might also be an Active or Mini variant. Either way, it looks like Samsung’s not done with its latest flagship phone.

Clearly the South Korean company has at least a few more smartphones planned for 2015. We probably won’t here anything official about the Galaxy Note 5 until September, though it’s possible we could see new versions of the Galaxy S6 unveiled even sooner.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 picture leak shows the metal frame of the SGS6

By Elyse Betters

Leaked press images of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 have just surfaced, revealing the backside and frame of the upcoming tablet, it's claimed.

When it comes to buying tablets, Apple fans likely first consider the iPad Air 2, where as Android fans probably want their own slim and powerful slate with a great screen and battery, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S. Although it's been a year since that line was refreshed, there's no need to fret, because if the latest rumours are true, a new Galaxy Tab S is coming and could be the best Android tablet yet.

A notable leakster known as @OnLeaks has posted new press images of the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, and in those new images, we allegedly see the rear of the yet-to-be-announced slate. Validating previous leaks and reports, the render also makes it seem as though the Galaxy Tab S2 will forgo a glossy plastic body in favour of the same design as the Galaxy S6, including its metal frame.

The renders indicate as well that the high-end tablet will launch with cellular network connectivity, a SIM card slot, and a microSD card slot (both slots appear side by side in the images). It's hard to tell exact dimensions of the tablet, but older rumors have claimed that Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 might be thinner than iPad Air 2 and will include a 9.7-inch display with 2048 x 1536 pixels.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 might also come with Samsung's own Exynos octa-core CPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, among many other things.

Samsung's tablet is expected to debut in June, followed by a worldwide launch.

Alleged Photo Of The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Leaked
By Tyler Lee on 05/12/2015

We have been hearing rumors that Samsung is planning a more rugged version of its flagship Galaxy S6 handset in the form of the Galaxy S6 Active, and now thanks to the folks at GSMArena, they have managed to get their hands on what appears to be a leaked photo of the upcoming handset.

Now based on what we can tell, it certainly looks like the phone is built to withstand a couple of bumps and drops. The AT&T logo on the back of the phone also confirms the rumors that AT&T will be the carrier who will offer the handset, although we’re not sure if at this point in time other carriers are planning something similar as well.

As expected, it looks like the fingerprint sensor did not make its way onto the phone. Presumably this has to do with Samsung’s choice of going with more rugged buttons, or maybe because the fingerprint technology might not work so well if it comes into contact with water. Then again, last year’s Galaxy S5 Active did not sport a fingerprint sensor either, so this is hardly a surprise.

In terms of specs, nothing has been confirmed yet but according to the rumors, the phone will sport a 5.1-inch QHD display with an Exynos 7420 processor powering the phone. It will come with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, a 16MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, and will sport a 3,500mAh battery, a well deserve upgrade over the Galaxy S6’s 2,550mAh battery.

I wanna know what's going on with the K Zoom successor? surely they aren't going to abandon the Zoom series already, especially after giving it it's own K range last year?

The K Zoom was announced last April if i remember lately and there haven't been any rumours or leaks to suggest the K Zoom 2 is coming?

Galaxy Note 5, Project Zen leaked with puzzling details
May 20, 2015

It's not unusual for OEMs to venture outside of their comfort zones in search of the perfect pitch. That is especially true for Samsung, who has, at least for the time being, diverged from its usual path with the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. That said, there are some choices that still boggle the mind and confound imagination. Like these new tidbits that are coming about Samsung's rumored two high end smartphones, particularly the one called Project Zen, the Galaxy Note Edge successor that might not be a successor at all.

First thing's first. Project Zen is apparently now known as Project Zero 2. If one remembers, the first Project Zero was the codename used by Samsung to indicate its "starting from scratch" in terms of design, which yielded the twin flagships we have this half of the year. This renaming implies that the Note Edge will go through a similar rethinking of the design. Consider our curiosities piqued.

The codename, however, isn't the only thing that Project Zen Zero 2 has in common with the Galaxy S6 edge. It seems that it actually won't have an S Pen, which is a very odd feature, or misfeature, if Zero 2 is to be the Note Edge 2. But perhaps the model name SM-G928, which is closer to the Galaxy S6 Edge's SM-G925, hints that this might instead be a successor to Samsung's first dual edge screen instead.

As for the Galaxy Note 5, there is no new word about it and the expected specs remain mostly the same, with a 2K or 4K screen and an Exynos 7422 chip. In contrast, Project Zero 2 is rumored to have a 5.4 or 5.5 inch display, run on a Snapdragon 808, have a 16 MP rear camera with OIS, and a 5 MP front camera. Quite curious is the word that there might be an official accessory called Keyboard Cover, something that is more common with tablets and not smartphones.

Samsung president Shin Jong-kyun already confirmed there will be no mid-year announcement of a high-end smartphone, so expect the two to debut at the same time at IFA 2015 in September.

Samsung Galaxy A8 leaks as 5.5-inch mid-range powerhouse

by Sean Keach
21 May 2015 |

The rumoured Samsung Galaxy A8 appears to have been benchmarked on GXFBench, helping clarify leaked details about the unannounced device.

Previous reports had suggested that the A8 would carry a 5.7-inch screen, but the newly leaked test readout claims we’ll actually see a smaller 5.5-inch Full HD display. The device is listed with the model number ‘A8000’. That’s a telling moniker, because the Galaxy A3 is known as the ‘A3000’, the A5 as the ‘A5000’, and the A7, yep, you guessed it, the ‘A7000’.

Fortunately, the benchmark (spotted by Sammobile) goes on to confirm most of what we’d already heard rumoured about the device.

Chief amongst the leaks was that the Galaxy A8 will use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 615 processor, an octa-core CPU launched back in February. That’s seemingly confirmed by the GFXBench results.

The benchmark results also show 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, and Android 5.1.1 OS. The mid-range handset also looks set to flirt with flagship territory thanks to a claimed 16-megapixel rear-facing camera.

We haven’t seen any leaked photos of the device yet, but it’s likely that Samsung will maintain the premium, metal trim design we’ve seen on other A-series handsets. The smartphone is also expected to be just 5.9mm thin, marking it as an exceptionally svelte handset. That’s an especially impressive feat when you consider that Samsung is also rumoured to have stuffed in a sizeable 3,050mAh battery.

What’s more, just yesterday it emerged that the handset could echo its big brothers, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 4, in adopting a dedicated fingerprint scanner.

There’s no official (or unofficial, for that matter) word on a Samsung Galaxy A8 release date just yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
