if that's the only major consumer, then displaying static picture should save lots of power...

Well not really. The image may be static but the pixels are still being refreshed constantly, even if the pixels are displaying the same colours. That's how I understand it.

However, the Z3 and Compact caches static images on the display, which avoids the need for refreshing. This is how they attain their two day battery life.

Isn't the new Japanese Xperia A4 brandishing a whopping three-day battery life? I can see this coming to the Z5C. Hopefully.

Most IPS displays are not refreshing if they don't need to.

A4 is nothing but Z3 Compact with plastic back panel. Z5C is going to have much worse battery life because of power hungry SD810 processor.

He replied to the person asking about Z5 Ultra. Guess Sony is taking the Apple approach. Would have been better if they could have squeezed a 6 inch display in a more compact chassis.

They need to make a new 6" Z ultra with the same dimension as the C5 U, early next quarter with S820.

The Xperia Z3C has great battery life due to having a huge battery, a small display (physically) and a power efficient Snapdragon 801. The 800, 801 and 805 CPUs were a true example of powerful yet extremely frugal chips, almost every phone with the above CPUs has good battery life, from the LG G2, Note 3, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z2, to Z3, S5 and finally Nexus 6 And Note 4.

Displays are getting more power efficient despite resolution, the 5.7inch 2K display in the Note 4 takes less power than the 5.7inch FHD in the Note 3. We can also see the advancement in same res panels e.g. the Xperia Z1 FHD displays vs. the Z2 and Z3 FHD displays.

I don't know if this has been posted here before or not but...

820 is 35% faster than 810... I guess that includes the projected increase in clock speed, so clock-to-clock the percentage might be lower... only a guess though.. but we don't know how well 810 is doing in it's full glory as we can't/(won't) see any product that run it without throttling...

I think it's not about the clock speed. About SD810:

You can expect ~1800 single core score.

It's more than time for a new Z Ultra! It should be max. 6" and at least 5,7" not smaller! It can be FHD again, I don't need stupid 2K... Your eyez don't see a difference. I would wish that Sony use again this luxury materials like on the Z Ultra: Very nice aluminium feel and hard glasses. Not like other Z series. And lord please hear us and no S810... I'd go again with S800. It runs fast like Usain Bolt!

What I want to be upgraded over the original Z Ultra:

- Better camera
- LED flash !!!
- Stereo speakers
- 32GB internal / 3GB RAM
- Fingerprint sensor
- min. 3000mAh - max 3500mAh
- Doubletap & multiwindow function (useful in this displaysize, still missing, sony is too lazy)
- (Latest Android with old SonyStyle Material, not this ugly Lollipop standard android (I still have kitkat on my ultra))

About Z5:

If Sony bring the new Z5 at IFA and again with S810 they have made a very bad decision with the Z4 & Z3+ before... Z3 is still good yet, so I have no clue why they have announced Z3+ & Z4 so early with the most stupid chipset... IMO I would pass Z5 until CES 2016. IFA is time for Z(5) Ultra & Z5 Compact with S808 or other better chipset, that's more than enough! And Z5 then later with the new S820. Do you remember Sony don't want bring all half year circle a new "flaggship"???!!!

They won't use SD800, it's old and doesn't support 64-bits. For big devices SD810 is actually really good processor.

according to mediatek documents , sd820 will have two cluster , two cores at 2,2 ghz other cores @ 1,7 ghz .

qualcom's developer device has 6,17 inch screen ,letv x900 has 6,3 screen and mi note has 5,7 inch screen , it's obvious big phablets could have better performence and less throttling , z4 tablet also have good scores.

ricciolo1 tweeted xperia new fs structure vs sd810 temperature @7 march ,
but we didnt see anything special for z3+/z4 , maybe it's for z5 line.

if they used metal chassis or another cooling structure , it would help for temparature and better performance.

By the way JDI announced 5.5 4K display ). Sony might do something extremely stupid with Z5 Ultra. I bought my Ultra 2 years ago and still no alternative for me. I sincerely hope the next Ultra successor is 6 inches. 5.5 is not good in the Android world. Cheers to whoever read this.

It is sharp that announced 5.5" 4k display back in april, not jdi. it is not likely to be inside phones before 2017. mass production is in 2016.

@amirprog

You are right. Well the 6.2" WQHD is the perfect size for the Ultra.
