Doesn't really matter in regard to chipset because there is no news of upcoming refined s810 other then v2.1 that z3+ has.
what you wrote makes sense but imo the opposite does as much. i do not see why they should not go head to head with rivals as it gives their devices a lot more exposure in media comparisons and consumers an option to choose sony especially new consumers as for example, they originally thought of buying the new note or iphone plus, etc. but now they have a new option to consider that is as good.
in the end, imo they need to treat the problem not the symptom... regardless of what rivals offer. they need to properly market their devices in all forms of media, make them available faster and in all carriers/stores. relying on sony brand nostalgia does not seem enough these days. and i'll add, not to make stupid ideas like those shatter films... |

use SD808 please I don't need the hot plate in my pant. |

SD808 is pretty hot as well. It's practically a hot as 810. Why? For example in the HTC M9 two A57 cores are basically disabled - they're activated for a few seconds during benchmarks. In regular use SD810 works basically as a hexa-core processor, in short - SD808 with better GPU. And still gets pretty hot. SD808 in the LG G4 isn't cool either and it's a massive device with quite a lot of space to dissipate heat. |

Spec race pressure .. everyone thinks that specs and benchmarks sell phones despite the fact that Apple keeps proving that theory wrong over and over again.
Google made heavy software that needed lots of processing power to work properly, Samsung had the scale to respond to that demand in the most effective way so they got ahead and everybody else followed suit.
The problem is... that was 4-5 years ago.. that strategy does not apply anymore because the hardware far surpasses the needs/capabilities of the software. Snap 810 is rushed, and its a huge overkill..

A couple of years ago, when processors hindered real feel performance, benchmarks were a good way of knowing how a different chipset is likely to perform certain tasks. In recent time CPU performance differences between the main suppliers is very small, the number of chipset suppliers is dwindling and real feel performance difference is unnoticeable so benchmarks have much less importance.
What now is the biggest let down in Sony phones in particular is the internal storage and lingering build quality issues (front and back panels becoming unstuck over time). With the industry in general RAM is becoming a sticking point but may alleviate with the advent of 64-bit in mobiles.
This heat issue thing is a a huff about nothing. Most modern phones heat up when in use. I'd like to see someone hold a laser thermometer to the back of every flagship in the last 12 months each after performing a certain task. I'm certain you'll find that ALL of the big ones heat up to some degree and the difference between them is small.
I have a dig bick You read that wrong |

X20 launches in dec 2015, so the earliest availability of a Z5 with X20 would probably be CES 2016.
I feel we might be looking at a Z5 with the following specs at ifa.
SD810
5.2" QHD screen, maybe 5.5
4GB RAM
32GB memory
21MP IMX230
fingerprint sensor?
This would be an upgrade over the Z3+ but is it enough to batter with the rest of the devices that will go on sale? |

this begs to ask the question...
WHY is Sony sticking to Qualcomm? Surely it is not the only company to make chips for cellphones, right?

^^Unfortunately, there's no better option. Samsung won't sell flagship Exynos for their competitor, Mediateks have rubbish GPUs, and they're difficult to write software and updates (Mediatek don't want to share with all the data). More - rumor says that SD820 is overheating as welll
If Sony goes with SD810 in the Z5 it would have to compete with midrangers equipped with SD620, even the testing samples are faster than 810!

Hell no, It's big (literally), doesn't support DDR4 RAM and just like every other Mediatek has rubbish GPU.

1. What's wrong with the internal storage in Z3 or Z3+?
2. Phones with SD810 are heating up more than the other. Throttling is also more severe (performance drops even by 65%)

16GB and no options while others had options for 32GB & 64GB... and when the flagships every where moved to standard 32GB, 64GB and beyond.. they moved to 32GB for Z3+ and nothing else... since 2014 there has been requests here for 32GB standard for flagships, and in 2015 some started to request even more...

In 2014 16GB was standard, not 32GB. 32GB is this years standard. That's what Z3+ has. You can find more (64 or 128GB) in devices without expandable memory. |

Yup, the rumors seems to be saying that.
