Xperia ZL was at its time one of the very best and still serves well (got one).

I am indeed looking for replacement, but there is shockingly none available!
As size matters to me - Z3, Z3+ and even M4 Aqua are out of question. 145/146 mm height for 5.2/5.0 inch display? Are you kidding me?
You can fit 5.0 FHD of ZL into 131mm!! If you want to make it thinner, fine, so make it 135mm range height, but not 145+mm!! Sacrifice the absolutely ridiculous thinness (6.9/7.3mm) if you want a space for battery and internals but I would even say it is not needed.
With the 2330 mAh battery inside ZL, it was capable of running a 1,5 day.
Now put in a current IPS FHD display, current 64-bit chpiset (S618 is fine if you ask me), and Lolipop and i am sure that will take care of the 2 day usage without the need for beefier battery. Simply the more efficient HW and SW will take care of the prolonged battery life. With Android M, the battery life will double anyway (ok, that is overrated).
So why the hell you have to make those new phones so big??!!
All we need is a bit thinner (8-8.5mm), bit lighter (130-135g) Xperia ZL successor with updated internals...
Where is your phone like that dear Sony?
Even from other manufacturers ... the one coming closest to the size/specs is LG G2... but that is 1 year old still running 32bit chips... (

Can we just wait for new rumours instead of posting unrelated topics? These posts take 1 page.

Pretty much, the rumours thread isn't an excuse to post wishlists.

The 'Z5' seems to be a departure from the Z3/4 design, it may not be to everybody's taste. Pictures compared to the real device could be misleading though. Bezel-less Lavender would be awesome if it is waterproof, that would be great for future devices.

Sony Xperia Z3 was already well ahead of the game and hadn't really bragged about it! I am curious to see how much ahead the Galaxy S6 is to it really! Goes to show Sony does use good hardware in their phones whether people are aware of it or not!

And credit to Sony for actually deciding to upgrade all the Z line and other models to Android 5.1! Well done! That's customer support!

Off-Topic: There is no need to keep arguing about the old phones

This is a rumors threat, I think we should discuss about future device, rather than bragging about these old devices.

On-Topic: Anybody have news about the Lavender? It's seemed to be a Mid-range Phablet.... T4 Ultra? I think it might use the Mediatek Helio P10 or hopefully the X10?

Good question, Sony already has the M4 Aqua which is waterproof so perhaps the Lavender will just be a larger phablet like device to replace the older T3 ultra, but just a hunch.

btw going by this sites info
http://www.gizmobolt.com/2015[....]ony-e5503-lavender-info-leaks/

the Lavender is this model

E55xx - Lavender
E56xx - ???
E58xx - Next compact?
E65xx - Z3+
E66xx - New flagship?
E68xx - New Phablet?

^The one from that site said that the Lavender will use MT6752

I hope its not true, since the MT6752 was announced around Feb last year.

The Helio P10 is its direct successor, maybe the final ver will use this Chipset?

I really hope Z5 is more a complete phone than the rest of the Z-series at the time of release date. The entire Z line-up always lacks something that could have put off buyers from getting one. These are what I expect on the Z5.

-2.5D frosted glass front panel & 2K display with same brightness levels as Z3+'s screen, Gorilla Glass 4
-2.5D metal back panel and shiny metal frame
-72.8% body screen ratio,
-apply omnibalance philosophy (proportionality)
-1W double stereo speakers
-Additional DAC for cleaner audio output and maybe S-Master amplifier
-Louder audio output, must exceed 100 decibels and better dynamic range with very little difference between with or without headset
at least 3000 mah battery
-HAAC mics
-USB 3.0/3.1 support, USB Type C
-IMX230 or better with sharper and higher quality lens/optics, Optical Image Stabilization, with RAW support and True Manual mode
-dual-LED flash, call it Plasma Flash
-record video in H.265 format
-Better Camera algorithm that improves sharpness. details, noise and white balance and better auto-mode
-Better UI themes - ability to change the color of notification menu. and ability to customize icons and sound alerts
-Fingerprint sensor( a must)
-Support for Bluetooth 4.2 High speed data transfer and higher quality bluetooth audio streaming
-better codec support for video and music: add support for wma/wmv, Avi, Dvix. mov, mkv, flv, xvid

These features are not too much to ask. Some of the features here are not really groundbreaking but are still a big improvement over the previous Z-series phones.

Perhaps it has something to do with the late sampling of early Q3, so July-August, and if this lavender is to come out during IFA, then the P10 wouldn't make it in time, this is why the MT6752 is being used. I feel either late 2015 or CES2016 is when this P10 will make it into devices, but I could be wrong since I have no idea how fast mediateks stuff once sampled makes it to market.

That's too much, 100 decibels is much louder than any phone on the market plus it's simply too loud because over 100 decibels is just uncomfortable noise.

If they can't make it in time for IFA, I think they should delay it to November, right on time for Christmas.
Sony is actually trying to boost its present in the mid-range segment. The M4 Aqua is priced quite aggressively in the ASEAN markets. It's price is somewhat similar (or even cheaper) to the Chinese vendors like Oppo, Xiaomi etc. With the released of the M4 Aqua and the C4. I think they should push this Lavender to November (for the Helio P10)

As for the flagships -"Z5 series" or whatever they will be called:
Please improve the auto mode for camera. Average end-users don't really care/have little knowledge about manual mode, they just want to take a quick photo with decent quality - This is just my opinion

Apple did a great job in this field, their auto mode are superior and really easy to use. My point is.... the main value propositions for the end-users are not just about how much you can tweak your camera (via manual mode). To me, The convenient value and reliability are more important, when I need to take a quick photo, I can rely on my Iphone (rather than my Z...) to take photos with little efforts/time and I don't have to worry about the photos' quality afterward.

After they call the Z4 Z3+ in the rest of the world I don't see how they can to Z5 without it being a truly big update. On the other hand 'Z4' has been used in Japan now. Calling the next flagship Z4 would surely be confusing.

To me, that leaves only one option. A completely new naming scheme. I know I'm not the first to say it, I'm just lending weight to the discussion.

This was rumoured or mentioned on some forum or tweet. They could use Z4 and then Z5 for Japan, since the number 4 isn't really that favoured in Japan. Only issue would be marketing and some costs related to the different name.

The name doesn't matter to me, as long as Sony delivers a great camera.
