When in doubt, blame someone else. Alexander Stubb, the Finnish prime minister, said today that Apple was responsible for bringing down two of Finland’s biggest economic exports — Nokia and paper. “The iPhone killed Nokia and the iPad killed the paper industry, but we’ll make a comeback,” he said earlier today in an interview with CNBC.

It’s not the first time that he’s set up Apple as the shorthand scapegoat for the country’s problems — Stubb made similar, pithy comments back in July when he said that “Steve Jobs took our jobs.”

Sure Apple took Nokia down and Microsoft killed it.
Did he do anything to save Nokia? Did he encourage new companies to grow big?

Nokia took down Nokia, not Apple.

They simply didn't move with the times, then accepted a Trojan horse as their CEO. Which was predictable.

Im in 100% agreement with etaab.King of the Mountain (Nokia) at the time were so far up their own asses dominating worldwide market share to realize the game had moved on,and in a big way.But hey thats history. Here I am sitting with a Nokia and quite happy and content.😏

They didn't even need to do much to stay top. They spent too long pratting about with S60 whilst developing Maego instead of going straight to Maego and developing the app ecosystem. The Nokia N9 was a brilliant first phone using Maego yet it never made the mass markets.

They should have quickly gone down the Android route when the first Galaxy S and S2 became hits.

I kinda miss the old Nokia... they had so many form factors. From a bar phone, to a flip, to a slider and dual slider, to a communicator with 2 screens. Those were the good old days...
Today, they're all flat rectangular thin slabs with touchscreens, only thing different from one to the next is the amount of bezels.

I think that prime minister is just looking for someone or something to blame... Nokia killed itself, Apple did not appoint a trojan as their CEO, they did.

cheers!

It was called Maemo and later became MeeGo as a joint project with Intel.
