"One of the downsides of owning an Android phone is that it can take you forever to get the latest software updates since each Android OEM has to work separately with different carriers before it can push out new updates. That said, some OEMs do a much better job of this than others and Computerworld has taken the time to track their performance and grade them.

Google and Motorola get the best grades in Computerworld’s survey, which isn’t at all surprising given that Google creates Android and Motorola was until recently owned by Google. After Google and Motorola, Computerworld ranks Samsung at No. 3, although there’s a considerable gap between them since Google and Motorola both get A grades for their upgrade efficiency while Samsung only gets a C+.

“Samsung’s not going to set any records for promptness, and it’s anything but communicative,” Computerworld explains. “But if you don’t mind the waiting and the uncertainty, it tends to do a decent job at getting its devices upgraded. Eventually.”

That said, a C+ is still a better grade than other Android vendors got. HTC, for one, got a plain C, although Computerworld did give the company credit for getting its flagship HTC One upgraded to KitKat relatively quickly. LG got a C- grade, which Computerworld attributes to being completely uncommunicative with its customers. Manufacturers Sony, Asus and Acer all fared even worse than LG, though, so you probably shouldn’t buy a phone from those companies if you want to get your device upgraded in a timely fashion."

I believe some of this article and some of it is just made up. To say Sony are terrible at updating and not very communicative, actually they update a lot of phones and use Xperiablog to notify updates. One example the galaxy 3, that's not even on kitkat yet and with the Xperia Z.that's getting the kitkat treatment this month, now tell me if that's bad updating!

The Galaxy S3 has begun getting KitKat in the USA.

By the way, the Galaxy S3 and Xperia Z are not comparable, the Galaxy S3 is from early 2012 the Xperia Z is from early 2013. The Galaxy S3 is the only phone amongst its main competitors: Xperia S/T/TX, Htc One/One+ to make it to Android 4.3.

The Xperia Z should be compared to the Galaxy S4, which has been on KitKat for about 2-3months now and is going through its 2nd round of 4.4.2 KitKat revision.

Actually the Xperia T is on 4.3 and as for the Z it would of been a direct competitior to the s3 the Z1 is the rival to the S4. Just like the S5 vs the Z2.

With that the Xperia T was the main rival to the S2, now tell me what's the last update for that??

A worrying thing that LG said was they do not feel obligated to update any of their phones except the top tier models like flagships etc. So in other words their lower price models are left out.
Phone?? What phone??

Apologies, the Galaxy S3 is the only one of the 2012 ones currently getting 4.4.2 KitKat.

The rest of what you say is pure and utter BS, The Galaxy S3 and Xperia Z are nearly an ENTIRE year apart, the S4 and Z1 are also sometime apart and the Xperia T and Galaxy S2 are nearly 1.5years apart, the Galaxy S2 is from early 2011, Xperia T from late 2012, you seem rather confused mate. Galaxy S2 and Xperia T? c'mon!

Heres the release dates:
Galaxy S2: Feb 2011
Galaxy S3: May 2012
Galaxy S4: March 2013

Xperia S: Jan 2012
Xperia T: August 2012
Xperia Z: January 2013
Xperia Z1: September 2013

So Sony are updating to 4.4 only phones made since the beginning of 2013 where Samsung are giving to phones released in early to mid 2012.
