Hi,

I've spoken to Vodafone this morning about problems with the smtp.vodafone.net/smtp.vizzavi.co.uk (same server?) and the errors I've been getting when trying to send an email. Downloading new emails always works, it's only sending that doesn't, apparently it is a known problem with the smtp servers which was reported on the 17th and is still ongoing today. No workarounds or estimated time when it will be fixed were available.

What settings/servers addresses are you using?

wayno,

I downloaded the settings from www.sonyericsson.com (direct link: https://secure.mouse2mobile.com/clients/ericsson/jv/email/new/default.asp) by picking UK/P800/Vodafone Live GPRS and then filling in the details. Just make sure to either accept the new GPRS account they SMS you or connect to the Internet APN, not the WAP APN when you check email.

Cheers

robpow,

Do you know if the smtp.vodafone.net server is working yet?
I know they're closing Vizzavi and Voda UK have not had an smtp server up to now (only the vizzavi one). I'm trying to set up an iPAQ to collect Freeserve email using BT and GPRS connection. Everything works except the out going mail. Obviously this is because I can't use Freeserve's smtp server as my outgoing mail server. It would be great if Voda UK did have a working smtp server I could use.
Any News? Anybody?

smtp.vodafone.net requires authentication.

Use mail.vizzavi.co.uk instead.

Thanks Cophia,

But I thought that Vizzavi was closing down??

Will this server still be available then?

Is mail.vizzavi.co.uk an smtp server? The naming convention mail.xxxx.xxxx usually signifies a pop or incoming mail server name.

UPDATE: I'll answer my own question... Yes the mail.vizzavi.co.uk server will be retained as Voda UK's smtp server after Vizzavi proper has died (RIP). I have confirmed this with Voda GPRS customer support personally.

And yes the mail.vizzavi.co.uk smtp server does work (from my iPAQ using BT to GPRS on T68i) perfectly.

So yeeeehaa.

I have the same problem only even with the mail.vizzavi.co.uk smtp setting I still can't send from Freeserve account on my ipaq. Incoming emails work fine over bluetooth/gprs.

Any hints gratefully received.

Okay,

The Vizzavi address is kept just for old time's sake, it is actually now pointing to one of the new Vodafone SMTP servers for vodafone.net email.

Vodafone SMTP servers are authenticated, but they also depend on the carrier you are using. If you are using the internet, soon (if not already) you will find that your email from Outlook and the like will only work if you use SSL.

If you are on the Vodafone network (GPRS etc.) you will be authenticated on smtp.vodafone.net but using send.vodafone.net will not require authentication (unless you try from the internet, it will only work unauthenticated from Vodafone's mobile network).

Good luck!

I have tried using both smtp.vodaphone.net (authenticated) and send.vodafone.net (un-authenticated).

Send works fine to my own Virgin.net account using send.vodafone.net but not to my work email account (which I guess requires and only accepts emails from authenticated sources?)

I therefore tried smtp.vodaphone.net but I only get an error meesage stating:

'problem while sending email'

I get the same message whether I am sending to my Virgin.net account or my corporate account.

Can anyone help please?

@maw,

I'm still using mail.vizzavi.co.uk for my smtp server. Works fine. Try it.
