It seems the T2 Ultra also suffers the same problem. Zoom in on the top right, a large area looks blurry.

Sorry but distand trees tend to get blurry due to movement. The roundabout is clear, that's far more important in this photo.

What F-stop is used in this pic? If they tried around F8 in another pic (If one can do that on mobilephones) im sure the whole pic would be sharp hehe

You're right JOH, it does look weird, a relatively small sensor should have a very large depth of field, meaning it's easy to get everything sharp in the picture.
But it doesn't really look blurry/unsharp, it looks more like a bit cloudy, washed out.
Yes I'm blaming software for this

I checked all the photos, none have the f stop information, and I am not sure if you calculate it since not all the information is there. But at 13MP and RS, I feel this is the same module as in the original Z.

Focal length on the z was 4.1mm at f2.4, this is the same focal length on the T2 ultra and possibly the same module, so best bet is that the f stop is 2.4.

It's not that distant. Indeed the roundabout looks clear, but even without zooming in it's easy to notice the blurriness in the top right area of the photo. If it were only the trees (or the greens, which is weird) that were blurred, it would have been acceptable but the blurriness affects a large area around those trees.

I'm pretty sure f-stops on mobile phone cameras are fixed. And ascariss seems right with the f2.4.

It seems a software problem. Other photos don't look bad on the top right area. Sure the edge of the photos may look blurry, but it is a common problem for mobile phone cameras. Having a large area being blurry is not. It looks like the software detects groups of pixels which has relatively the same hue (which is noticeable even on other photos) and "blurs" them which could decrease the size of the picture, but the problem is it also affects the area around it. I'm no photo expert, I just easily spot these things since I like pixel peeping on these sample photos. That's why I noticed the same problem in Z2 and T2 Ultra.

interestingly, the isocell camera is behaving like an xperia camera. the note 3 takes sharper snaps in low light.

This is a Z2 topic not a S5 topic.

Oh dear, I hope the pics get better as the S4 was rated to be better at photography than the Note 3, so if the S5 is worse than the N3 then it is quite a step back from S4.

I think we should all just wait until the final Z2 and S5 units arrive, at least then they'll be on final FW and should be quite a lot better than what we are seeing now.

I'm expecting the Z2 to be the new Android Camera king, it simply can't be just at Z1 level.

I know. Sorry.
Was just being too eager with the camera comparison.
Noticed how the ISOCELL camera was acting like an Xperia's. (Z1 and Z in particular). Low light/artificial light photos had the tendency to be very noisy.

I was actually worried that Samsung could have an ace in the camera department. Sony can't lost the camera sensor/module market.

He is referring to the stereo mic accessory from Sony, which is of better quality then the built in one.
