Sony may release a Windows Phone in 2014, according to The Information
Sony is considering launching a Windows Phone sometime next year, according to a new report from The Information. If true, such a move would break Sony's current loyalty to Android and give Nokia some fresh competition in the Windows Phone segment. Both sides have reportedly held numerous discussions, with Sony going so far as to draw up designs for a prototype device. Any future product could be branded under Sony's Vaio line, according to The Information.

It seems the 805 snapdragon isn't due until late 2014 (according to engadget), so I'd assume IFA, meaning any new models due from sony in 1st half of 2014, will not be packing the new cpu and will probably ship with the higher clocked 800 by the looks of it. |

1) because of the rumors from the different sources. they can't all be false.
2) "into 2014" could mean also "until sometime in 2014", etc.
3) sony need a buzz before IFA. Z1 won't sell like S4. they got to respond to samsung, htc and lg upcoming flagships.
4) flagship every half a year is their strategy for the last 2 years (?). |

If Sony want to make a buzz on next years flagship then they should hold a single launch event rather than CES, MWC or IFA most major brands do this i.e Samsung, Apple, HTC and LG all had a single event when launching their new flagship smartphone in 2013. This has its obvious benefits as there is no other product launched on the same day such as the Z1 and Note 3 were both announced at IFA just hours apart. Surely one single event for a Flagship and use the tech shows for mid and low range devices would have a massive advantage in publicity for the brand.

i'm sure we could find advantages and disadvantages in both strategies... BUT, if releasing the Z1 one year after the Z would have meant better result of low light imaging, image processing, high quality IPS display, less first adopters software bugs, etc. in short, more mature end product, then i totally support one flagship every year.

Hmmm, so Android, Firefix OS, Widows... it would seem Sony are looking to expand their mobile footprint by a fair amount here. I REALLY hope this desire to expand will eventually include their very own Playstation OS, be it Vita OS or a variant of it. |

So, windows?
What we know is Sony won't take it unless it can push it's services on it. Which means Microsoft will become more open?

windows phone may just be another line of VAIO or convergence. Sony can probably breath easier in windows phone market than Android market as competition is not as intense.
it's also possible that Sony won't have to update windows phones because M$ doesn't want to, so maintenance costs is probably much much lower than Android. |

IMO Xperia Z1 looks more natural but Z1f has better viewing angles |

Z1 has been their best-selling smartphone ever? Any ideas how good it has been selling so far?

Hell no. Nokia, I mean Microsoft has that market for their own. And I have a bad feeling about Microsoft luring Sony closer to them. Just look at what they did to Nokia, they planted Elop in and eventually bought the company.
