I really like the RX series .. the 3rd one should be pretty amazing. The price tag will probably be around the same as the first two.
I really hope they put a wider lens on there this time around. |

When should we see Q1 2014 results? Last quarter, Sony shipped 10.7 million. Should we see an improvement? Hopefully Z1 compact sold well....

I guess next week. They issued a warning today and revised their previous forecast; now expecting 1.3B loss( vs. 1.1). I guess 9.5 million units sold would be a good guess. |

Are their losses at least going down year-on-year though?
I often wonder to myself how long Sony can last on this path.

@Tsepz_GP Last year they returned profit and they have been profitable 2Qs this year and were expecting profit but they decided to undertake a restructuring which is taking its toll. |

To offset the results of the previous restructuring.
Still refusing to take money from Microsoft, competing with Samsung with no retail presence in NA, and the list goes on.
Sony is the Sony's worst enemy. |

people complain about their US presence but they don't realize that Sony don't even have the resources to compete with decent marketing to begin with to do their marketing and advertisement world wide. If they do split their resources for NA, their marketing campaign would still be tiny compare to something like Samsung or apple and basically wasting all of the resource for other regions where they are strong at. Sorry for the people that want the Z2 in NA, which you can still buy it if you really want to; however for the company its best to focus on countries they are strong at like UK, or South East Asia. Not to mention they already have their supply chain issue which cause the delay of Z2 already. |

Sony is the Sony's worst enemy.
So you're under the impression that continuing to take losses in the Vaio division as far as the eye can see into the future would have been preferable to selling it and taking a one-time hit? No offense, but there's a reason you're not on the board. |

Weren't they restructuring just 2years ago when they bought Ericsson's stake in the phone division?
Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge.

Even before that there were several restructures since 2009 (as far as I remember). |

BluRay and the expenses around selling the PC biz seems to be hurting them
http://www.theverge.com/2014/[....]-adjustment-impairment-charges
"Sony is warning shareholders to expect poor financial results for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2014. The electronics giant previously expected to pull in an operating income of 80 billion yen ($782 million) over the financial year, but is today adjusting that figure down to just 26 billion yen ($254 million).
The sharp reduction — the new operating income estimates are 68 percent down from a February forecast — can be attributed to a pair of somewhat unexpected events. Roughly 30 billion yen ($293 million) of the drop is due to "additional expenses" from Sony's exit from the PC business. The company announced it's to sell its PC division to a Japanese investment fund earlier this year."
Really tough for hardware manufacturers out there.. Software seems to be a much easier way to make money these days. Even the troubles with bluray demand are probably partially due to Netflix and Hulu

yeah, software always have mega high returns, its what turns MS into what they are today. Things like movies too are good as long as everything they put out are guarantee mega hit like spiderman. Their last 2 mega bomba like white house down and after earth should teach them to invest more carefully. I think they do get it and said they will do more small budget projects like TV such as Breaking Bad and less high investment and high risk projects like After Earth. Seriously who the hell still invest on M Night shyamalan stuffs?! I really hope they won't get rid of their TV division, as triluminos screen hsa just being mature enough and cheap enough to buy. Funny how everyone asked for IPS panels for the phones, their new 2014 TV are all IPS triluminos and they are trash compare to their 2013 models. |
