No Moogoo I think there is a slight confusion.
8 MP = 3264 x 2448. All phones with 8 MP cameras have this resolution. Only available in manual mode as option on Z1.
8MP 16:9 - 3840 x 2160 = Downsampled 20 MP. In Superior Auto Mode
So either only 8 MP 16:9 (Superior Auto) uses downsampling or both 4:3 and 16:9 8 MP (superior auto/manual) use downsampling. I'm not sure which one

well you can pick 8mp 4:3 or 16:9 in manual mode, but forced to use 8mp 16:9 in SA mode.
If SA is the only mode that has downsamples photos then that's pathetic. cause we all know SA produces far inferior photos than manual mode. So what gives?

Yeah, I was wondering the same
Guess only a Sony engineer can give us the answer |

i think SA mode has difficulty with auto focus for some reason. which is why images don't turn out that great. in bright daylight, it produces very nice photos, but in low or dark light, it just doesn't. turning on the flash, you do get much better photos but sometimes you don't want that flash on!
fact is, it just doesn't do as amazing of a job selecting the right mode for the job that sony thinks it does. as smart as it might be, it's smarter than an experienced photographer/user.
would love to be able to pick the brain of a sony engineer who konws the details of the Z1's camera but that kind of access is pretty much impossible.. heh

@zxcorr
Oh I understand. Don't know how old panel of Z beats the newer... Now I'm thinking to sell Z1 and buy Z Ultra again.

king-james go EXCHANGE Your Z1 with another one. you clearly have a bad display. mine doesn't look anything like that.

totally agree!
the only thing i liked about it is that it's running 4.2.2 ! which means that it's almost done and sony are testing it! |

um.. but we're already on 4.2.2? we're supposed to be getting 4.3 next month..
EDIT:
i actually looked at the post. 4.4.2 looks great! I'd be very happy if Sony jumped the Z1 straight to kitkat next month. though i wasn't aware it was already at 4.4.2 and not 4.4.1. *shrug*
@king-james - then get the Ultra man. you should stick with what makes you happy. that's the most important thing.

Hard to explain this "pain"...
I came from Ultra, was too big, then Z1, but dissapointed. And nothing else between 5" - 6,4".
Z also runs with 4.2.2 already > smoother than Z1.

^ as i said.. Z1 has 4.2.2 already!
and i really doubt it is smoother in the Z.. seems your Z1 is just a really bad unit. truly.
