I've got a question that really fits the garbage section.
A friend is still running XP. Suddenly he lost all sound. He set it back 2 weeks but now the mouse isn't working either.
All I can think off is to make fresh install of XP and start saving for a new pc.
Do any of you have a clever solution.

What SP version is he on? SP1, SP2 or SP3?

the machine is terrible slow. I noticed he doesn't really know what he's doing, think its full of crapfiles too.

The best solution is a fresh new install of XP.

As for the sluggish system you can advice him to download a freeware version of this

It's an all in one solution for cleaning his disk of junk data as well as the registry

if it still did not fix the problem then a fresh reinstall is necessary, you can also try to convince him/her to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 as long as the hardware could handle it
