Android and Apple might be fighting a fierce battle for the title of the most popular platform in the United States, but globally Android easily wins the first position. Across the globe, Google’s platform is dominating sales, but what is the difference between the US market and the rest of the world? And which device is popular where?

Handset Detection has published a curious infographic about 7 of the world’s most populous and/or developed nations illuminating the differences and similarities between them.

Not surprisingly, Samsung devices were in the top 10 list of Android smartphones in all of them, with Galaxy S II and S III enjoying huge popularity. But there are some stark differences. While in France Android tablets make up nearly 28% of all Android devices, in India tablets account for only 3% of the grand total. And while developed markets prefer handsets with sharper displays, India for instance has a larger share of more affordable devices with resolution such a 320 x 240 pixels.

Interestingly, the United States actually has the most variety in Android. In the US there are 1360 unique different Androids. A lot of that has to do with the carrier situation as every operator in the States feels obliged to rebrand a device with its own name, logo and often change the looks of it.

Was gonna get a Samsung but don't understand why. Then i seen the new Lumia 720 with the worlds first phone camera with f1.9 and also again with Nokia's own innovation of HAAC mics for video too. I knew i had to stay with Nokia. Their quality, craftsmanship, reliability, innovation and fresh ideas. The brand of Nokia is not dead. Samsung?? Bored.com

The smartphone followed by the HTC Desire S, Nokia Lumia 610, Apple iPhone 4 and BlackBerry Bold 9900.
The remaining five places in the top 10 list were occupied by the iPhone 4S, Sony Xperia S, BlackBerry Curve 9220, Samsung Tocco Lite 2 and LG Nexus 4.
MobileInsurance.co.uk said it had gone back through past claims data up to the present day to find out what mobiles are better off being avoided. It added it decided to release the information after noticing a pattern in handset models that were reported as having faults.
The iPhone 3G S topped the list of mobiles that were least frequently reported as having faults, followed by the BlackBerry Torch 9800.

BB Torch 9800 LEAST likely to have faults my ass here in South Africa where BB still runs the Smarphone market that very model is amongst the worst.

What I get from the above is that the phones that sell the most seem to have the most claims as there are more of them around to go wrong, iPhone4 and 4S have to be the best selling phones around and both make it up there, interesting study though.

Hence why it's the best selling Android, glad you finally get it.

One of my 3 brothers has a Samsung & he has had enough of it. Constant issues with slow dialer, app drawer redraw issues, speaker & microphone problems, screen going blank issues during a call and cannot hang up. The list goes on and he has had the phone fixed twice. His previous Samsung was just as bad. For me,I don't care who is on top who has the most sales or who has the biggest, fastest whatever. What matters to me is what works for me. Now that it gets all Samsung & Apple it just becomes boring and release after release it's the same old yawn. I want something to make me different and stand out,not the latest Fart Core,Octa core etc it's just not important.

Having recently played with various Samsung phones through friends or shops I find they lag like many other Android phones. God knows why I even considered it

World domination often ends in tears, eventually

That's your opinion and I respect it, but for me and most others Samsung are currently the best when it comes to smartphones in multiple areas, from functionality, support to the content they deliver. Samsung for me are the only other OEM who are really thinking about the future realistically, you guys are seeing a very small part of what they are doing, for example:
Are you aware of the fact that Samsung are making all kinds of deals with both private and public schools here in The African continent to deliver educational material, classes and examinations through their Smarphones and Tablets? How's that for innovation? While Nokia make their fancy microphones Samsung are actually trying to educate and improve the quality of life for many. They are also looking into creating cheaper and easier ways to access medical treatment, the whole S Health part is a great leap, especially for developing countries, all this may seem to be gimmicks and so on but with each year that passes all this tech becomes more functional and cheaper and trickles down to the mid end then the low end where it becomes available for many. I always go back to the example of the GPS in a phone, I remember many people even on this forum when Nokia launched the N95 many said GPS was a gimmick in a phone, yet here we are less than a decade later a GPS is now crucial part of a Smarphone, you have to look at the bigger picture of where they are going.

Regardless of make of phones, I find mobile phones to all be very reliable. Samsung, Sony, Nokia - they all make good reliable phones because they have little or no moving parts.

Ive had many phones over the years and not once have I had a phone be faulty through poor quality of manufacturing. Ive not owned a ZTE or Huawei, an Alcatel or other budget company devices, but what ive always found is my phones last longer because I look after them.

I don't drop phones, or at least not often. I don't keep them with keys or sharp objects. I don't throw them down when im done with them.

Reliability only becomes a problem after poor treatment of the devices.

Not always. I have had so many reliability problems and I treat my phones like wrapped in cotton wool
