Hmmm... this feels like deja vu. It takes me back to when Nokia would come up with great phones until they ran out of ideas.
Could we see a 'new' player coming to the fore to topple Samsung next year?
This is an okay phone, still better than anything available, but by just a whisker.

With Samsung's softwares and chips it would be nice to see on top of this a beautifully styled bit of kit to make me say wow i want that but it just doesn't. Never seen such a bland looking design. People though i do wish would stop saying things like oh we are jealous of Samsung or whatever. I am never jealous of a phone more jealous of a woman  Never understood why people say that. All it is that i simply am not wowed by it. I wouldn't spend a large amount of money on it i would rather go on holiday

Phones4U in UK said 40% higher interest than GS3. I also read it does again use pentile display but not that it matters on a 5 inch 1080p screen

Here's my take on the S4.
Really nice, two things that stand out for me above everything else:
- 4.2.2 - Samsung are providing the latest out of the box. HTC and Sony haven't even got any firm plans for 4.2.2 yet. Hats of to Samsung for this.
- Size - big kudos to Samsung for keeping the same size. I had a fear it would be larger, but they've realised that this is probably the maximum they can go without starting to cannibalise the Note.
The camera, as with the S3 camera looks ace. Again, Samsung seem to be able to bring the best out of the Sony sensor.
Touchwiz updates look incremental, a few colour changes and the weather widget is now new. I would imagine this new Touchwiz Nature UX will come to the S3 shortly.
I'm not 100% convinced that current S3 owners will update. Compared to the S3 it does feel a little bit like a S3 plus. Yes it's faster, has a bigger battery, better camera and screen, but I don't think these are massive step forward from the S3.
Design wise is the disappointment, yes plastic is durable but I don't think Samsung can keep this design for the S5, they will have to move away from it. HTC One wins this round this year with design for me.
Another winner for Samsung at the end of the day. |

Indeed. I'm now waiting to see what us GS3/Note2 users will get in Android4.2 and Android5.0 before I make up my mind, its great to know we Samsung users are guaranteed updates even after new flagships arrive . I'm loving the S4 for its hardware, had a good laugh when someone here said the XZ's S4 Pro gives it an advantage here's the GS4 with the Exynos 5 Octa, rocking a GPU that is 2nd ONLY to the iPad4's monstrosity of a GPU, gotta love this place!

Yep, Sony is TOTALLY going to butcher it! Thats already guaranteed more sales than the XZ will probably get in the time it takes the GS4 to get here, seems Samsung do have a winner.
Roll on the Sony fans and their excuses ..... this is going to be entertaining.

Only if Sony learns how to make a pretty phone that performs as good as it looks.
I loved the Z but after reading a couple of reviews I was disappointed.
Right now I wish the SIV was water resistant so I would buy it. I am not discounting the SIV yet, waiting for the reviews.
I am now in BlackBerry's corner, the BB10 OS is really good and has some potential going forward. Just waiting for the Q10 reviews before deciding whether to go full-touch with the Z10 or with its QWERTY-equipped sibling.
As for Samsung, they are where Nokia was with the N95, the important question is can they come up with a phone that will be breathtaking next year cause the competition is no longer that far from the Korean manufacturer. Any of the current manufacturers can do to Samsung what it did to Nokia.
Only time will tell...

Yep, when it is Sony it is wrong to judge a pre-production phone but for any other manufacturer it is perfectly fine.

Well since we've seen with Sony phones that there is NO difference between pre release and retail release camera performance, I don't see how it's wrong
Also note that the HTC One is also running pre release software.
So it's pre release vs pre release and not pre release vs final

There has already been a leak (screen shot) for 4.2 with the Z a few weeks back. Its obviously in testing. And Sony has stated it will come very shortly after release. I have my money on the 4.2 update coming before the s4 is released. I could be horribly wrong!
