Hey people. I am thinking of getting the Siemens S55, I really like the look of the phone and the specifications are good, but I am a little concerned about the screen seeing as its only 256 colours. I understand it comes with a camera for MMS, but I wont be using that all that often as I have a digital camera for proper photos. What do backgrounds and pictures look like on the screen, do they look terrible? Also, what do you think of the phone in general, are there any problems with it? Whats the java like, are there any problems with downloading games? Thanks in advance. |

The screen on the S55 is actually worse than the T68i...Trust me, both of 'em suck...otherwise a great phone though |

I had 13 months a T68m and now I’m using a S55 since December last year.
About the S55 screen, with the same amount of colours, if you use .jpg background, the result on the S55 is worse than the T68. However, if you use .bmp background, the result is a lot better than the T68.
But obviously the 4096 Nokia colours are much nicer.
And if you look to all the other features, the S55 is in every single point a lot better than the T68 and, by the way, than any Nokia on the market today.
In fact, I miss just two very small things from my T68. The first one is the possibility to set a small font (with the S55 you can have a very tiny font when browsing Wap pages…), and the second is the “time left” in hours for the battery…

I'm happy with my s55 and t68i. The features of these phones far outweigh the lack of colour definition for me. Certainly wouldn't bother with a nokia, better off with an s55.

believe me if you want bright vivid colourscreen you buy a samsung or nec, if you want a cool but 13 in a dozen phone you buy a nokia. and if you want a top quality mobile you get the s55 or t68i

Well said Verko, hit the nail on the head there. Even the age it is now, t68 is still one of the best featured phones today. S55 just has those ample of extras that would be nice on the t68. The screens are fine and do the job. Just al depends what ou want from your phone.

So far, (got my S55 last friday) i think it´s nicer overall than the t68i
two small gripes: I would really like to have my contacts sorted with first name first but i can live with that. Also at least on my phone, the keys require slightly different pressure, that is, left row 1 4 7 * require a bit harder pressure than the others. About the screen: A guy who works at a local Telia store told me the screen itself is identical to the SE one, so so much for one being worse than the other..
I am not impressed by the new Nokia screens either.. more colors, yes, but they look faded when viewing photos. Not very vivid at all.
The ultimate screen has got to be the Panasonic GD89(?) the clamshell one anyway. THAT´S a nice screen! Don´t care much for the rest though. As i see it the S55 is outstanding value for money.. |

@ThreeX, The phonebook system in all mobiles can be overridden by putting all your contacts in withy a number infront:
01, mark
02,jane
03
04
05
06
07
08
09
10
11
This way YOU decide the order & it`s the same in any phone you put your sim into (you have to use 01,02 ETC otherwise the phone puts 11 before 1).

Interesting, but what does Outlook say when syncing? Doesn´t it want to correct it and/or complains loudly?

I’m not sure if you can do that with the S55, but…:
try to change the fields mapping between XTNDConnect and the S55, with "Name = Firstname" and "Firstname = Name"… it may work the way you’ll like…!!!
I did that before to have the “right” order in my T68 when syncing with my Clié… worked well…!!

The system i use is because i have different phones and about 4 active sims from different providers, with the numeric system i can have exactly the same phonebook on all the same sims, you will have to try sync yourself, as i havn`t got an s55, but basically i do it this way because it`s an easy way to have a "backup" on all my sims, also any pc or phone that sorts info into an order has to give preferance to either numbers or letters & i find they all give it to numbers first.
Finally as NOTHING is ever perfect, i just thought you may like to know how kept an orderly phonebook EVEN while swopping sims to different phones.
