Please, tell me it's true. I am really looking for it in smartphones.

Not the 808 it doesn't

LMFAO - yeah alright. Sean72 is right, its not a patch on the 808. Have you seen the full 100% crops ? Poor indeed, not even as good as the N8 which has less pixels.

Sony just havent a clue anymore. Which is why they keep releasing flagships every 6 months.

I really dont want Sony to go out of business, but i dont think they can stand in the mobile division if they keep designing boring innovation lacking phones like this.

It is not true, APQ8064 can only record 1080 at @ 30 fps.

1080 High-definition video recording and playback up to 30 frames per second

The camera samples look good, definitely an improvement over the Sony phones from previous year. Btw, this phone has created a huge amount of interest among people. Maybe more than what Sony itself had hoped? The number of views for the promo video and the daily interest ranking on gsmarena.com are a testament to that. Hope this gets translated into number of units sold. Sony should launch a huge marketing campaign at the time of its release. They need to be a little bold in their advertising as well. For example, if phones from other manufacturers had the kind of music related features a phone like Xperia Z has, I can imagine the kind of bragging they would have done in their advertising. But Sony is keeping surprisingly quiet about it, even though it has the bragging rights! When other manufacturers are advertising useless gimmicks such as the pop-up play feature in S3, Sony should not be reluctant to advertise genuinely useful features.

Clearly you guys who're so quick to defend this phone arent into phones as much as many of us here on Esato.

What you call a useless gimmick, i use often. I watch a lot of video podcasts on my phone that i download and often find it necessary to send a text. Ive been asking for multitasking capabilities like pop-up play for many years. What you find a silly gimmick, i find innovative. For once, something i envisaged years ago made it to the market.

Name one piece of innovation Sony has brought to the market since dropping Ericsson ? They've done nothing. Their only device which has stood out from the rest is the Xperia Play.

Hell, more recently since updating again (how many Sony phones are still stuck on ICS??) ive been using multiwindow on my SGS3. Something yet again i find very useful. I love being able to have two windows open on the same screen. Something which was brilliant only on Friday evening when i had Google maps on whilst stuck in traffic 6 miles from the road accident which caused the congestion. Whilst i was doing that i also had messaging open with voice input.

Xperia Z huh. Or Xperia ZZzzzzzz ??

Btw, another point to note is why have Sony now gone through 3 flagship phones in less than a year ?

Sony are scrambling to make money and clearly putting little effort into their handsets. They're grabbing at sales desperately.

Just think how bad you guys would feel if you wasted money on this phone and within a couple of months HTC and Samsung will both release their 2013 flagships which will wipe the floor with it with spec on its spec sheet ?

If the Xperia Z had mulitiwindow, pop-up play, smart-stay, smart call and all the new features on the S III and the Note II people here would applause it . . . . . .

Away dude! The truth is that Sony became somehow a basic manufacturer.. same as HTC.
I was a SE fan.. and waited for a great Android smartphone from Sony for years.. that didn't happen.

Samsung revolutionized the Android world with the launch of Galaxy S series. Both in terms of hardware and software optimization. Remember that days when the browser was fluid on Galaxy S and pathetic on other Android phones? Ha?

The number of flagships can easily be explained by this being the period of time where the last of the previously designed Sony Ericsson phones were being put to market, and now we're getting Sony Mobile designed phones to market. Such things are to be expected when massive transitions are being made.

As for last years phones still being on ICS, that's all part of the transition too it seems. Based on info we've recieved online, SMC is hiring a lot of new people to ensure Sony isn't behind the curve on Android updates ever again. In this case they had to sacrifice the updates on last years phones for a bit so they could ensure the new flagships would launch with current OS's. And yes, we have been told that Z and ZL will be upgraded to 4.2 very soon after launch. If all goes properly, this should be the last we'll hear about Sony phones having update problems or delays.

On the topic of multi-view windows, if Samsung has a feature on their phones you find useful and it's not found anywhere else, then stick with 'em. Sony has small apps which aren't as comprehensive, but are still something. Maybe Sony will have a multi-view equivelant down the road, who knows. Personally it's not something that's a make or break feature for me, and the friends I have with GS3s don't use it either most of the time.

Finally for specs compared to the next flagships from Samsung and HTC, it's just the same old story all over again. Sony comes out with a higher end phone that beats their phones. Some months later they launch phones that beat the Sony phones. Come 2H 2013 Sony will have the next flagship that beats their phones... just the normal cycle of technology. The important factor is how well does each phone perform for general use and higher end functions? If the Sony does all functions without a hiccup and the only place you'll find a difference between it and the other flagships is in benchmarks, then who cares? Certainly some people who do follow the benchmarks religiously will care, but the vast majority of others won't. They'll just care if the phone does what they want it to do.
