this is too funny. people making wild assumptions and drawing unsupported conclusions based on the declarations of random (not randomuser) people and patently biased websites (i.e., the verge).
Just gotta shake my head and say whatevs. Go to the store. Use the device. Trust your own eyes and your own experience and make your decisions. If you conclude everything based on what other say, you're no more than a lemming!

It bothers me that Sony always use cheap parts in their flagships and expects no one to notice. Cheaper screen and soc, why can't they just take the absolute best available and make it more expensive. I would gladly pay more if I knew it was the best.
I think Sony's phones are expensive enough. In Honami, for it's expected price they could take all the best, including the Xenon flash. It's a pity that for example Oppo managed to get better performance with Sony camera sensors than Sony, and for a more reasonable price.
And the new slogan... The best of Sony is now even better (than 6 months ago)... That means that what was claimed to be the best of Sony (just 6 months ago), admittedly wasn't good enogh. |

following your logic. SGS1 wasn't good enough because SGS2 was better, SGS2 wasn't good enough because SGS3 was better...etc? |

The thing is you can't expect to compete with apple or Samsung, they always choose the best parts for their flagships
lol. I like the trollness. What do you mean cheaper SOC? Mind using your tiny brain a little more. And the screen, it's has spot on viewing colours. Don't get blind from your Sammy's fanboism. Annoying basket.
And btw, plastic is cheap.

Sigh, I make a valid point and all you can manage is name-calling and troll accusations? I wonder who is the bigger fool here.
There are different s800 socs of different quality, Sony choose the cheap one. Note 3 and Xiomi use the better one. http://www.anandtech.com/show[....]3-tegra-4-and-msm8974ab-inside
I don't expect the screen to be anything special either |

Don't sigh or hai or whatever. This is a Sony forum, like it or not.
Using whatever variants of the S800 SOC will NEVER make a difference in real world usage.
Correction: There's no "cheapness" difference between MSM8974AB and MSM8974A. It's just different modems used.
And I searched all over the web and couldn't find a reference that the Note 3 is using the MSM8974AB. Try harder.

^^seriously.. that anandtech link didn't say anything about a cheaper soc. and there are 3 times. samsung may well use the 2.3ghz one in the same bin as the 2.2ghz one. it's just a matter of modem type.
this accusation of cheaper soc and cheaper materials is pretty ridiculous.

cheap? really now? can you give us a breakdown of all the prices of the materials used in Z1? I want to see proof of your claim motivkt. This is too ridiculous, are you running out of negative things to say about the Z1? LOL
If you ask me, apple is the one that's cheap with the materials, aluminum painted frame that chips off? yet the iphone is one of the most expensive phone in the market. Samsung had always used plastic, I believe the cost of aluminum is much more expensive than plastic.

As huiyi mentioned, msm8974ab will not be available this year and the Xiaomi m3 will only ship with Tegra 4 this year. Note 3 does not use msm8974ab.
As for screen, it's not cheap either. It is as good or better than Z ultra which has probably the best screen on the market currently |

I think Xperia Z1 is a premium smartphone with premium parts.
The processor is premium
The display is premium (IMO the best display...very close to Z Ultra)
The camera is premium (Sony G lens, 20.7Mpix)...even without the final firmware has produce the best photos.
The design is premium
IMO Xperia Z1 is currently the best smartphone overall.

There was a link to youtube about screen comparison between Z1, GS4 and G2. I couldnt find it.
Is it in this thread or Z1 thread?

It is in Z1 forum
Honestly, I believe right now the Z1 is the most perfect deal until the next Z2 in not before June 2014

I dont think you are being fair here. Samsung uses cheap plastic thats not even injection molded (like Nokias) wich gives them better margins. I knew people would overreact about what i wrote but unless you are planning to undervolt or overclock the chip on a custom kernel, you wont notice a difference!
To draw a parallel in laymens terms. Galaxy S4 used APQ8064AB while HTC One used APQ8064, yet in every review the One was considered the smoother and faster phone.
Look at the new Nexus 7, its using the cheapest bin Qualcomm is selling with S600 and its still faster than anything out there right now. Z1 is a great phone man, dont focus blindly on the numbers |

SGS1 didn't have the attributive "the best of" - which wasn't really true related to the Xperia Z. And the Z1 - according to the described specifications is indeed better (than Z with the best of Sony), but I don't see groundbraking improvements, apart from the theoretically improved camera - which doesn't have OIS, Xenon, and according to the sample shots it doesn't outperform competitions, or even the Xperia Z. Downsized the photos look good, but in full size the noise is ridiculous, reminds me of the nature of noise seen on photos shot with my Sony Ericsson T300 + Mca 25 )
And now, the Xperia Z1 has the best of Sony, which is even better. When Sony will introduce the succesor of the Z1, how would be (ower)graded this adjective? I'm not sure that the Z1 successor will be called Z2. Knowing Sony, Xperia Ω would be imaginable also...
