That's the volume rocker and power button you're seeing in that top pic. Z1 has them very close together in the middle.
The SIM port seems to be completely covered with that case, so yeah... xenon hope is pretty much gone, lol
Ah well! |

Nah, dont think so. Looks like it doesnt cover the place where you find the usb port and sd card slot either. |

^^^ It does cover the sim slot / suspicious big flap in your picture on the Honami, doesn't it?

I do hope those mounting cases come in other colours too. I'd hate to cover my white Z1 with a black case |

If Sony have a plugin flash then they have really gone one step beyond anything else on the market, strange thing is that I was wondering who would buy the add on lens when neither the phone or lens have a capable flash surely again the weak link either way, but if you look at how the 2x lens camera's attach and only one long flap near the power button then you would have to remove the whole flap before attaching the external lens camera - why not 2x flaps
now in saying that - all the official photo's of the flaps on both sides of the Z1 have only shown one with a label and that was for the SD card, all the others are strangely blank (unless I missed something) I can't remember if all the flaps on my XZU had labels |

you guys are correct - it's the usb port that is left uncovered in both the Z and Z1 in those pictures and everything near the power button on the Z1 is covered (big flap) it must be simply the sim card holder and the pull out device details under there
But I must say I hope someone at Sony is reading this as if they are not intending to do it in the future and insist on excluding a proper xenon flash on their devices then a simple small plugin flash unit is for sure a great solution - powered by the phone battery - tiny enough to put in a pocket - what a great idea |

Not necessarily, maybe you're not suppose to use plastic cover when using Xenon (pop up or an add on).
But seriously, at this point, chances for Xenon are below 0.

I read somewhere that Sony were doing something on the 3rd by invitation only before the public announcement on the 4th - I'm sure I read that somewhere |

Guessing it's an exclusive press event to share materials and give them a chance to get some of their stuff together for the actual event so news spreads as quickly as possible. |

I think it's time to get over the prospect of a xenon flash in a Sony phone this year. It'll still probably have the best camera of any Android and iOS phone, and it'll be a competition for daylight photos with phones like the 1020 and 808. Night time will suffer to some degree due to less powerful flash, but will still likely be quite acceptable by smartphone standards. These are my unofficial predictions.
Here's hoping that Sony will do a pop-up flash for a 2014 phone. The ability to bounce the flash is amazing and no other smartphone will have it. |
