The viewing angles problem is subjective to begin with.

Come to Japan, you will see a lot of people in the subway put a protective film on their phones to reduce the viewing angles, so that other people cannot read what they are writing above their shoulders.

So Sony probably did not consider it important as Sony engineers may be doing so themselves, it does not mean that Sony was not able to do it.

But they did listen to international reviewers and change this, which is good IMO.

yes, I was also convinced that bigger pixels would perform better than smaller ones using the same sensor size, but then I read trough these two threads here:

And now I am not so sure any more I thought that full frame DSLRs show this trend clearly, since most of them bet on 5-6 + micron pixels, which I thought meant that this was the way.

Obviously they are compensating for the smaller pixels with newer sensor tech, which relates to your comment about the RX100.

[...]

On the 1020s sensor... we are yet to get an official confirmation on who actually made the sensor, it might be a Sony made sensor. The 808 uses a Toshiba made one.

I am glad to read your post.
Yes, let's compare the final products and not have a paper spec geeky fight as can be seen too often on tech sites comments.

For the sensor makers, if it is not Fuji or Sony latest tech, it has chances to lag tech wise, which one can compensate with bigger sensor and bigger pixels, at the expense of a bump.

The wait will end soon!

Yes yes... also for me it's not a problem... but general critic and a lot of person were complaining... so I think it's something it had to be done to gain sold unit

mah.... I'm not convinced about this... first, the dimension of the screen 5 inches is already big (I'm more in the 4,6 inches range) but it's still good and it has its advantages, 5,5 inches is entering in the phablet arena... Too big :/
second the resolution for me was already good with 720p... it's awesome with 1080p and with such a high pixel density we will not even notice the difference at the end... it will just drain more battery and given that the battery tech is not evolving there's no point in it... WE NEED BIGGER BATTERIES first and foremost... than the rest could come...!

EDIT:
1090 pages... this is a special number for me, not as one thousand and ninety but as ten-ninety, and I'm glad to be the first comment on this page!

538PPI? nah that's crap compared to this:

http://www.androidauthority.c[....]8ppi-oled-display-sony-254182/

but I think they'll use it on EVFs rather than smartphone displays

A99/A77 successor should come with that imho

Almost all apps include XHDPI graphics, which are 720p-ready. Newer apps have XXHDPI-graphics too, which is what the Xperia Z-like phones use. The way apps are designed means they're resolution-independent for a lot, so text and layouts are always scaled properly.

Comment to LG Display news

welcome to even more fragmentation in Android eco-system

and why they're able to claim themselves as World-first 1080p screen manufacturer, how liar!
I remember that Sharp was first manufacturer able to ship SH930W to market around November last year.

All those pixels are useless battery drainer on a small screen, 300PPI on iphone was sharp enough that I think opting for a higher pixel count on such display should demand a much larger display diagonals as well so we can fit more UI elements in it. needless to say I can do more things on a 21" 1080p PC monitor than with a 1080p ultra retina display on current 5" smartphones

+1
as I said 720p were enough... 1080p are awesome... we do not need more as of now...
Still evolving tech is not a bad thing, I'm not denying this!

Evolving technology is a bad thing if it hardly brings us true benefit. for example can we really see the advantage of a 1080p display on our shiny smartphones as compared to our ancient 720p ones? what makes it worse is that 1080p screens eat more battery than anything else on a smartphone. take ZR and Z for example, ZR's 720p screen does not really look crap compared with the latter, and it fits just the same amount of UI elements as the Z. you also get higher benchmarks and in game FPS and the battery life lasts longer. until we see holographic projection displays on phones, this ridiculous PPI race is nothing but bragging rights. a silly way to describe and justify the "premium/high end" moniker.

Absolutely yes but in my opinion the problem it's not evolving techonlogies, but how they use them... For me progress is always good, new tech, new info, new knoledge is always positive... then the problem is How To use it, it has always been like this, with everything ... same goes with smartphones... IE Super Duper Display are ok in the right field (medicine, engeenering, war (I know it's a bad example but the more you are precise the better it is )... every kind of precise work) but in the smartphone industry?? no thanks let's stay 720p (or 1080p which I really like and IMHO I find difference between the two) no more pixel is needed! It is just a cock contest to see the one longer and bigger, as everything, and obviously to win sales! because the f**k if it has One Bazillion PPI it's better than the one with Half-Bazillion PPI no? (just joking )
The should stop this and top other sides... Battery, Internal Storange, Resistance and Durability and others which are way more important to a customer... but at the end normal customer take the phone and look at the screen if it is ultra duper shiny it's ok... if not then it will remain on shelf
This is the way it goes...
