Andrea at SAR is reporting a crazy but innovative in-lens sensor accessory being developed by Sony (SR5), with built-in 1" BSI sensor it connects through NFC and WiFI to the smartphone(possibly Z Ultra and Honami)
http://www.sonyalpharumors.co[....]nex-lenses-and-a-curious-lens/
is my post kinda late? I'm not sure since I haven't been active for the past 3 days >_>
Now if this thing is real then the decision to switch for a smaller sensor on honami would be understandable

I haven't heard of it untill now. I'd really like it, then you'd have the free choice between awesome image quality or portable smartphone.
Edit:
The more I think about it the more I have to say this would be freaking awesome!!
He even said this rumor would be like SR6

well it says Zeiss lens and 1" BSI in the SAR post, that's mind blowing in every ways!
@reeflotz:
kabayan, can you make a render of your existing Honami model that includes this? I want to see how it looks like in higher quality

@razec..
http://www.artefactgroup.com/wvil/
The lens will need a battery, electronics and some motors for the autofocus, phonebased camera AF doesn't need motorized system duo to it's small size and mass, a simple magnetic lens assembly is enough, but with a complicated lens like this, it will need more than just this, unless it's a fixed zoom, then a small electromagnetic focus can do the job

Yes it definitely needs a built in battery
Andrea mentioned in his website that there were two models to come, the first would be a replica of RX100MkII's imaging hardware (1" BSI and Zeiss 28-104mm equivalent, F1.8?) then the second model will sport a larger zoom.
and Andrea also mentioned that it will be compatible with all smartphones equipped with NFC, even the galaxies and the pureviews can use them

@razec
I'll try but it might take me up to monday before I can finish it, I'll be busy this weekend , can you pm me references on what the lens should look like? Is it supposed to look like the image you posted where it should be just clipped at the back of the phone?

Well if this is real it would be perfect! in this way they could release Honami with a 1/2.3" sensor, which (even if 1/1.5 it's way better!) is not that bad, although it's quite good (especcially for our standard on smartphones). The Honami would be perfect as it is and if a person need awesome photo that it could buy this monstrous (with positive sense) accessorie ! this will keep the design of the Honami beautiful without being too bulky! You just attach the camera when you need it! great news really!
Even more if it could be used on every NFC equipped phone then they would surely sold a lot of unit... In my opinion it would be the perfect move! (Still I would love a 1/1.5 sensor on my future honbami, but it's ok )
How much do you think it could cost? 100-150$, more?
EDIT: Even more you could shot two photos with the camera sensor and with the accessorie sensor... different MP and size, similar to Lumia 1020, really useful! I LOVE THIS IDEA
EDIT2: If I undestood correctly that would be a separate sensor... so It would capture the image and send the data, probably RAW, to the phone via NFC/BT/WIFI which then would process the image (the Honami has thee Bionz so that would work out the processing part...) this would mean that it could work completely separated from the phone... like if I put thge sensor on a shelf and then I just shoot photo of myself, I mean NFC/BT and even more WIFi has a certain range for working:) imagine the possibility!! I'M SO PUMPED FOR THIS

All I can say is WOW! I just got wind of this on Twitter via The Verge and it seems like an ideal solution. I hope there is one for the Ultra.

Price? nah with 1" BSI and Zeiss this would be as expensive as Honami!
but still, you'll get what you'll pay for it, those combo is something you'll never get on any existing smartphone these days

But that would be no computing parts... no screen... shorter battery... no buttons and whatsoever beacause everything would be controlled from the phone... I mean it could be 250-300$ less that the complete package no?
STILL.... Too excited! I've been thinking and this is the perfect solution! Honami would have a great camera (not superb as it could be with the 1/2.3) pre installed... and it could have a SUPERMEGAWONDERFUL camera for the people that need it! Just one thing... honami NEED to have Xenon... than it's perfect.PERIOD.

The Zeiss glass is never cheap, when we refer to the ZA zoom lenses for A-mount, they already cost over $1000. This accessory which comprises of the sensor(expected to be expensive), AF motor, NFC/WiFi chipset and battery would further add to the already expensive Zeiss glass. it'll be like buying a new RX100MkII. the only way I can see this getting cheaper would be if Sony decides to use its own lens line (not the G-glass) commonly bundled as kit lens for their NEX/DSLTs
but you bet, even I would be salivating over this imagine a lens model with RX1 imaging caliber, no matter how expensive it is, it will blow the competition out of water. even going toe to toe with Full frame DSLRs but for now the 1" version would be fantastic. but let's be reminded that this is still a rumor, though it is an SR6 rumor

In thee alpharumor page they said the first one would be based on the RX100 MKII... it costs 749$ http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DS[....]905&sr=8-1&keywords=RX100+MKII could it even cost more than that?? :/
Yep you're right I would pay what it cost! It would be something really useful... you could take it with you on your next smartphone and sso on... on different phones and maybe even product like PCs or ablet who just have NFC or WIFi... who knows?
