@king-james: ty very much

I hope the internation version of this Xperia E will be cheaper that the European one
Cust even Nokia are offering Lumia 510 which is about 150 USD, SS and LG also offer something similar
If Sony want to compete with those phones they need to lower the price a little bit....

So I guess Odin/Yuga will also release with Android 4.2

And yes, I love that Sony will keep the same look for their UI (is Timescape even its name? I thought that was just the name for one of Sony's apps) with more colors in their animated wallpaper. Should be nice wallpaper to show off the Yuga/Odin once anounnced

Edit: I'm guessing the 6 inch phablet will be C7XX and the Q3/Q4 flagship will be the C8XX

C- Cellphone like V = Vaio, BDP = Bluray player,

6 = Main Model Series. Higher the number, higher the specs

5 = Sub model in model series

0 = Basically means nothing, club it with 5, 50

3 = Region SKU code. Eg 2 = US,3 = Asia etc.

If you read the article, Tegra 4 is for tablets for now. Htc 2013 flagship phone is using APQ8064. In fact ALL 2013 1H flagship phones except Samsung Galaxy S IV are using APQ8064.

yes. my mistake

and Exynos 5440 better than APQ8064 in term of bench and everyone think Exynos is better and ...

actually if Exynos 5440 will 1.8-2GHz quad Cortex 15 with mali-T604 , it can beat APQ8064 easily ...

I will never support Sony for using Tegra chipset in their mobile, let's tablet risk it alone

Sony now wants to work more with 3rd party developers, AOSP project anyone?

take your time to read this article, shed some light about 3rd party OS development

nVidia almost (if not the worst) worse as Samsung, in support essential kit for developer

also you may look back about nVidia has case about supporting Linux as well

It's a problem by it self, that's why Sony is still looking,

Options ?

Qualcomm : let's face it, this is the best option... until Sony starts to make their own SoC.. the problem is Sony needs to better relation with them so they can get more quantities sooner than others, or at least in the same time frame...

TI : They are slow adopting new and high-end technologies and also latley they announced they will give the SoC market less priority over their other projects...

NVIDIA : competitive, yes but bad for long term 3rd party supporting ( developers unfriendly )

ST-E : competitve, but slow when adopting new technologies, just compare it to Samsung for example

Samsung : Good and fast, but they won't help Sony be a competitive for their own phones, + Samsung SoC has a bad reputation in developers eye's...

That's why Sony is still looking, and the latest rumours pointed to the Chinese maker MediaTek for a Quad Core A7 SoC testing... this will be a good choice for mid level quad core phones phones, but high-ends needs A15 cores...

Sony's own SoC

I don't think this will happen soon, unless they generate some hefty cash again
that will able them to buy a modem license from Ericsson in order to integrate into own SoC

A competitive SoC should have modem integrated, standard has been set by Qualcomm
even nVidia also follow this same trend in forthcoming Tegra 4 as you may see.

Samsung must watchout this problem (modem integrated SoC)
which significantly reduce power consumption if not they will fall from competitive level
As now, I'm interesting to see what modem is inside Galaxy Note 2 US model
They put an LTE modem along with Exynos 4 Quad, but surely not integrate unlike Qualcomm.

As for MediaTek initial adoption (testing), it's very interesting
that Sony will fighting hard in hardware race and marketing push
though support HD resolution and 28 nanometer made, very good for mid-end market
better choice than Qualcomm Quad-A5 in 2013 anyway,
and ST-E may late in competition again with L8540 / L8580

Sony and Tosh gobble chips to kick start recovery
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/12/06/japan_toshiba_sony_chips_splurge/

Ailing Japanese electronics giants Sony and Toshiba are set to splurge a combined total of over $US14bn (£8.7bn) on chips next year to support a range of new products they hope will turn their fortunes around, according to market watcher IHS iSuppli.

The analyst revealed in its IHS Semiconductor Spend Analysis report that Sony’s chip spend would jump by five per cent from $8bn (£4.9bn) this year to $8.4bn (£5.2bn) next, while Toshiba will increase outlay on processors by two per cent to $6.1bn (£3.8bn) in 2013 and then by 6.3 per cent the following year to reach $6.5bn (£4bn).

The two firms’ optimistic outlook is in stark contrast to that of their domestic counterparts Panasonic and Sharp, both of which plan less spending reductions will drop in 2013 and 2014, iSuppli said.

Sony, whose credit rating was recently dropped down three notches by Fitch to double-B-minus, even lower than Panasonic’s, was forced to sell its chemicals business to the state-run Development Bank of Japan and issue five year convertible bonds in order to generate a profit this year.

It’s also in the process of cutting 10,000 jobs by the end of fiscal 2012 and is selling off manufacturing plants and shares in joint ventures.

Toshiba is faring better than most and still hopes to generate a net profit despite losses in the past two quarters.

IHS said that despite the gloomy headlines, innovation at the firms could yet herald a resurgence in the market, pointing to a wide range of smartphones, tablets, TVs and cameras on show at Japan’s CEATEC show in October.

In particular it highlighted a Bravia 4K LCD TV and hybrid tablet-laptop devices from Sony as well as plans for a PlayStation 4 console, as well as new REGZA HDTVs, ultrabooks and tablets from Toshiba.

IHS is predicting mixed fortunes for the two, however, with Sony likely to see 3.7 per cent revenue growth while Tosh is set to suffer a further one per cent decline.

“All the Japanese consumer electronics OEMs are struggling financially – prompting them to take measures to cut costs in order to shore up their profits,” said IHS analyst Myson Robles-Bruce, in a canned statement.

“But even in these grim circumstances, Sony and Toshiba remain optimistic about the future, and are taking steps to invest in innovative products. This will cause their spending on semiconductors to rise in the coming years.” ®

About ST-E being slow...

The a9600 with integrated LTE should be the best chip of 2013. If the 2H Sony flagship uses it, I'll want it, lol.

If the a15 exynos is quad...Then there will be problems. But I think it would drain too much battery...

A9600 is off the ST-Ericsson website. So perhaps we will never see a phone with A9600.
