hello everyone. I have been following this thread since several days ago and appreciate very much all the news and latest rumors. I am most interested in Sony Honami also and have indeed the utmost desire to purchase it, as it's definitely going to rock, no kidding.

Anyways, the Chinese computer news website I often go posted a news with a leaked picture of honami. Hope this has not been posted as I just came back from work and saw it and just want to share with you all now.

source: http://news.mydrivers.com/1/266/266564.htm

translation by me:
Xperia i1 uses 5" 1080p with 2000:1 level of contrast. Its touchscreen will be harder and more durable than Z's. It will feature X-Reality, Triluminous, and OptiContrastPanel techs on its screen. 2.3Ghz Snapdragon 800, with Adren 330, of course, with 2Gb RAM and 32GB rom. MicroSD card is supported. Large 3000mAh battery with whole new UI. NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, and LTE 4G are essential and will appear on it as well.

Furthermore, it will also have great sound quality and photo-shooting quality. Honami utilizes two stereo speakers. 2.2MP front-facing camera which supports 1080p video-recording. 1/1.5 inch, 20MP Exmor RS front-facing camera (some say 13MP), with Xenon + Duel LED Flash, and dedicated physical camera shutter button, and features the renowned Cyber-shot UI.

IP55/58 water- and dust-resistant. Glass, metal and carbon fiber materials for Honami's body.

Cheers!

I've owned the 808 Pureview. It has xenon. I honestly don't see a big difference between it and my other phones with LED.

There is a HUGE difference.. its the only flash on a mobile that makes any sense. Of course, its not only the flash itself.. the oversampling helps a bunch as well.

See here: http://sdrv.ms/VQ3eCd

and also this example

Xenon (808)

LED (iphone 5)

cu015170, your photos look very beautiful. I am also very amazed by 808's image quality. I am confident Nokia will make a good contestant in the camera industry.

Those images suggest that the sensor is the biggest difference. The extent of illumination appears to be relatively similar. Meaning, the iP5's apparently shitty LED flash managed to achieve the same illumination as the 808's Xenon.

I'd agree to that.

Actually the LED achieves less illumination and forces compensation in the form of longer exposure (notice the motion blur) and post-processing to give the impression of a brighter shot adding noise and losing clarity.

The size of the sensor plays a part but not that big of a part.
I have a dig bick
You read that wrong

good catch RickyD.. spot on what you said. clarity is much better in the 808, but the motion blur in the iphone5 is evident of a longer exposure time to make up for the lack of illumination.

if honami gives 808 quality photos, i'll be very happy for a phone camera! I've been thinking of saving up for the new RX compact shooter, but if honami delivers.. i may save my money

That makes a lot of sense Ricky_D. If LEDs were any kind of replacement for Xenon we'd see them in standalone cams more.

the Xenon benefit is that it creates higher illumination but for very short time, that time is enough for the sensor to do it's job...

the LED low illumination means the firmware will have to enable night mode, so the sensor should be more sensitive also.. but still the firmware also must take longer exposure time to have correct illumination for the scene...

this will have two drawbacks
1- blur for not static objects...
2- higher amount of noise...

the drawbacks of Xenon are...
1- higher cost
2- design challenge duo to larger space required by the xenon flash + electronics + capacitor.
3- higher power consumption
4- very high illumination for very short period of time resulting of more exposure to air imperfections ( dust and humidity )
5- duo to time limitation, this solution can't be used for video.. the later will require LED's also so adding more cost and space requirement to the already complicated design !!

that's why I doesn't want Xenon in the body, but as an bundled optional accessory... as this is a phone and even if it has better camera, most of the time it will not be a camera...

if this was a smart camera, then yes the Xenon will be a must... but it's a smartphone so being portable, small and the battery stays longer is more important than having big size... of course some peoples will say it's better but I think the majority will say ( I prefer smaller device with optional extra power.. if the device must be big then I prefer bigger battery.. )
