Hmmm.... Either the display is small or the phone is HUGE.
And it lacks a touchscreen(or so it seems).
Looks like it's based on series 60 os(wild guess)

It is.
Siemens has licenced Series 60 from Nokia.
There seems to be a lot of funny stuff going around regarding the keyboard. |

Well, two things are advantage: MMC and video recording. Also joystick seems usefull. It seems that we are going to see many smartphones in near future, I am eager to see new Nokia Communicator. Next week is going to be interesting (3GSM Congress) and Cebi in March...

I'm not a big fan of Series 60... IMO, UIQ is better.
Unless Series 60 devices get smaller - if you're going to build "half-baked" PDA-like functionality (such as PIM, small applications etc.) into a phone, you have to keep it small.
Having used bulky Series 60 devices (Nokia 7650 & Nokia 3650), I feel that many would rather carry a similar sized P800 with richer functionality (thanks to UIQ).
If the phone is gonna be that big, it might as well have a touchscreen... Sony Ericsson got the right idea with the P800.
I really like the Siemens S55 though - Cool phone.

SX1 from siemens?what happend to sx45?did it reached your respective markets?was it launched by siemens?
The s55 looks cool except for the colored display resolution but i would go for the sl55.same features of s55 with the size of a se t600(h=92mm).
I do hope SE really comes with their surprises this coming 3G and cebit. They have been very quite lately unlike nokia and definitely motorola.

It seems like a nice phone.
I wouldn't really compare it to the P800, though (I'm trying to convince a Siemens freak that you can't really compare the P800 to the SX1 / K1, but uagh! Check it out on www.smartronixx.com [German], it's pretty funny... ).
Looks nice, but Series 60 is a turn off for me. |

It would be very hard to use the keypad as its on the edge of the phone.....and it would be very easy to press the keypad accidentially during call or using the menu......as you would hold the phone on the front .........seems like a competitor to N1 !

What about when the phone is in your pocket ? With the numbers around the side, you could easily accidentally dial a number. Apart from that, I rather like the look of it. |

| Maybe that's the reason why they put the keys there. [:)] I remember reading somewhere that the QWERTY layout was *really* designed like that to slow people down coz they keep jamming the keys while typing on older typewriters. |
