Do you remember when I posted something about a fastest supercomputer?Well, that's not anymore the supercomputer. We have another champion.

IBM has reclaimed the World’s Fastest Supercomputer crown, with a 16.32 sustained petaflop monster called Sequoia installed at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Based on a 96-rack IBM Blue Gene/Q system, NNSA’s new toy will be used to model nuclear weapons management, including artificial testing so as to avoid the need for underground performance tests. The supercomputer record was previously held by Fujitsu with its K Computer, that came in at 10.51 petaflops.

But they've assigned a task for this computer: "In particular, the system will enable suites of highly resolved uncertainty quantification calculations to support the effort to extend the life of aging weapons systems..."

I hope they get better tasks for it.

We can use it here to add up Bono's phones - it would probably break down.

That is one hell of a seriously powerful computer, although I bet it won't hold on to the crown for too long.

geez, a machine designed to improve killing machines It'll be better if whoever owns that thing would use that to further improve protein folding to develop solution for today's incurable diseases (like the one that's making Masseur suffer) or even better, use it to simulate future asteroid trajectories to protect Earth from possible ELEs.
