One of the things we told you we’d be delivering this spring is the final part of the Orange and T-Mobile signal sharing project, a seamless 3G signal experience so you and your users will be able to access seamless fast internet in more places. Following the successful trial of Smart Signal sharing, initially in the South Coast and then in Northern England and Northern Ireland we’re pleased to confirm that National roll out of Smart Signal Sharing will commence on Monday 26th March 2012.

The area we will activate on Monday 26th is Scotland and national roll out will then continue with a new area being activated each week and we aim to complete National Roll out by May 2012.

Here’s a quick recap on some of the signal share activity we’ve already completed and some of the benefits you’ve already seen:
• 2G signal share is complete – you can now access Orange and T-Mobile networks using 2G signal so you can benefit from calling and texting in even more places.
• 2G in call handover is complete - calls can now handover seamlessly between the networks depending on network strength, meaning fewer dropped calls.
• 3G signal share is complete – anyone with a 3G compatible device can now benefit from 3G signal from Orange and T-Mobile, so you can benefit from fast internet in even more places.

And now Smart Signal Sharing...

We’re updating how smartphones and dongles pick up a 3G signal, always giving priority to a 3G signal irrespective of which network is supplying it. Therefore, rather than just being able to pick up a 3G signal from either Orange or T-Mobile, customers will now seamlessly transfer between 3G signals from either network.

Once the signal on the device reaches approximately 1 bar of coverage it will transfer signal to the stronger network. If there is no 3G signal available, the device will move to a 2G signal from either network. Then, as soon as a 3G signal from either network comes back into range, or after a call is finished, the device will seamlessly move back to a 3G signal no matter how many bars of 2G signal there are.

If customers have a smartphone, this all happens whether they’re downloading an internet page, on a call or even if their phone is just switched on doing nothing. With a dongle, it means it will always move to the best 3G signal available whether customers are downloading content or just doing nothing too!

Customers won’t need to do anything to benefit, we’ll automatically roll out the benefit across the UK from March to May. The charges stay the same no matter what network they’re using; there are no hidden charges or surprises.

We’re proud to maintain our leadership position in delivering the best possible data service and we’re making sure our two networks work intuitively together.

If this is as pathetic being here
Then you know where the logout button is
Use it And stop wrecking my thread go and annoy
Somebody else ok!

Anyway back to topic
The Orange T-Mobile signal is really
Solid I'm curious if a name change will
Come about so there just one big company?
