Having seen that video the yellow screen is clearly evident compared to the whites of the One S.

I got an explanation to this by the one that made the clip. When power saving mode is used, at 0-20% brightness the screen produces slightly warmer colors. With power saving off or at higher brightness settings (say 80%), the white appers as natural white and not yellow. Also, the auto white balance of the camera used exagurates the yellow, which in reality is not as prominent as in the clip.

If I remember right Laffen once held an Xperia P and in the photos in sunlight it never looked any different from the Xperia Ray in sunlight for example which is average in sunlight at best.

Judge by your self. More screen comparisions. This time outside in bright sunlight.

HTC One S left, Xperia P right. Both with 100% brightness.

Xperia Neo left, Xperia P right. Both with 100% brightness.

Look at the yellow color on this photos on XP screen. On sun for example.
It is dirt green, but not that yellow/orange like on OneS and Neo screens.
Looks awful

@Arne,

The screen does seem to have very good sun light readability. I read the review of xperia P at swedroid, it seems generally favourable(and a very good review done!). One thing which really bothers is that they have pointed out something which even I thought of, it has good battery life in standby, but once you use it, its really poor. Whats quite amazing is video playback was over 8 hours on 1300mah. It seems sony does have a good technology with white magic, but they really failed at using it efficiently. Why nnot provide atleast 1500mah? That would be advantageous to the customers, as well as for their marketing.

P seems to be such a good phone but the battery life is the biggest problem which is why I wouldn't recommend any one to buy who buys a smartphone to use it, but those who buy smartphone for just namesake, and light users, could buy it :@ .

Fair enough comparison. I agree with the shitty small battery they could have made it much longer battery time. Cutting costs there :-/ A dual core handset with a 4 inch screen really should have a minimum 1,500mAh battery imo

But looking back the x10 was also excellent in sunlight too. X10 was better than the Arc in sunlight.

Rog got better battery time with Xperia P than Xperia S if you read further back. At Swedroid we also have a user Chompiz which has a press unit and with wifi enabled, mail sync every 30 min enabled, fb sync enabled etc. after 8h the battery had dropped just 5% during the night. This is on par with my X10 mini except that I have no WiFi or sync activities enabled (but I have BT 24/7).

Personally I think the battery life in reality will be on par with most other mobil phones out there, neither better nor worse than anything else you have used so far. Also, the software for new ST platform is most likely not as stable and optimized as for the QUALCOMM platform (for instance the video playback capabilities of XPeria P is not as good as for e.g. Xperia S), so there is probably lot of headroom left for further improvements (battery performance included).

The ICS is not far away now and it will be interesting to see what it will bring to the smorgos board when it comes to battey life and performance optimizations.

@Arne,

This is the quote from their article

"At a more normal use of the phone as an SMS: spirit, phone calls, emails spirit, Web surfing, video watching, music listening and twittering so drained the battery at an alarming rate. While the screen itself is likely to save some power to chew the dual-processor platform unashamedly in many big bites of the battery when the phone is actively used for the above activities. We find it difficult to cope with a full working even with moderate use, and because moderate use is not our song so we are forced to have with us a charger wherever we go - and hope that there is a contact available."

I do hope its not that way tho. For me sms, whatsapp and browsing is on a higher level.. I am waiting for more people to chip in and to see the test from gsm arena, right now, s3 seems to have one of the best battery life..

A guy at XDA said that in China a firmware update that solves the strange colouring at max brightness is already released. Maybe the yellowish tint at very low brightness is also solved with that update??

BTW, the phone is sold for £269.99 here and is currently in stock. Has anyone purchased from them before?
