Is this the rumor, or is this confirmed?

Anyway, looks like Samsung is stepping up their game. They'll be updating their 2012 devices as well, even the unexpected low-ends will get 4.1. They'll be skipping 4.0, which is interesting since we'll start seeing Jelly Bean on low-end and mid-range phones.

I still don't like TouchWiz, though.

With this many devices released 2012, very late. 2013 would be my guess. Cant understand Sony. They should do like Apple. Instead of releasing new phones with similar specs as 2011 models (Xperia tipo, Xperia J etc) they should just keep the minis and arc and whatever like apple do with all their phones. They could even relaunch them again if they want. Xperia arc is even better than J, but J will cost more. Same with mini, its better than tipo but tipo is more expensive

No personal opinion here again! No design, no UI! Just suggesting better marketing strategy!

+1000 Really great way of expanding the lifetime of the older Xperias. Instead of developing new phones, overlapping the already existing ones, but with higher prices, they could have just released a proper ICS or JB for the 2011 Xperias ( bug-free, smooth and with the new UI and applications, instead of faking low-mem problems or weak processor power ) and everything was going to be tiptop! Trust me, this could have been great marketing strategy, I'm sure you know that, since supporting one phone beyond the 18 month lifetime, guaranteed by Google, is not something many manufactures do, right now I can only think of HTC and Samsung, doing that to their high-ends. Sony could have benefited a lot from such kind of strategy in the past, since people don't like being forced to upgrade to new smartphone in less than an year after the previous purchase ( including me ) and such kind of user support could have attracted a lot customers, who now go for iphone or SGS3. And that could have made me really happy, because I could have had the ability to use the new Sony applications, without the need of touching the new Xperias, which I find extremely ugly, or using flashtool, which avoids the warranty. Xperia Arc S - announced in August 2011, released in October and deprecated in January 2012. That makes only 4 months lifetime. Where are the rest 14? Yeah, it got the crappy, laggy and buggy Sony ICS as well, but since even the SE Service Centers advise customers not to upgrade to 4.0, and no JB is to be expected, it gives the customers the feeling of being fooled by Sony. Or the Pro? Announced in February 2011, released in November 2011 and deprecated in January 2012. Don't you agree?

Furthermore, I think the 18 months support, guaranteed by Google, should start running from the release date, not the announcement.

The best mobile phone brand died with Sony Ericsson's death. Shame on you Sony for killing it! And, of course, for ruining the Xperia brand...

I kinda agree with Mediar for a change Sony should work harder on the software part, especially now that Samsung has upped their game and is bringing Jellybean to even the low end models.

Also updates this year have been slow, and no doubt it has to be blamed on the sheer number of phones Sony released this year.

Anyway thankfully Sony will release much less phones than they did this year in 2013, so hopefully next year they can do a much better job with the limited portfolio they are going to have.

Furthermore, the Xperia J pretty very similar CPU and GPU to the one, used in Xperia Arc/Neo/Pro/Ray, same screen, same camera, same RAM, same amount of hardware buttons and so on, so they can just copy-paste the stable firmware, load the proper drivers and BINGO! Everyone is happy! Even the X10 could have benefited, if it had 512mb RAM.

And Sony needs to realize one very important thing - supporting the older models doesn't hurt the sales of the new one! Apple, Samsung and HTC already proved that!

One more thing:

Xperia T/TX/V/Acro S ICS:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFqL5kYT8HM

Xperia Arc/Neo/.../J/Neo L ICS:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivNRfgkEBi4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjeYPg9KQSM&feature=relmfu

If you look closely, you'll they the have different menu layouts, dialers, folder icon, page markers, status menu, system menu backgrounds, music players and many other differences... Xperia Tipo/Miro have third kind of ICS.

Please tell me, how are Sony not going to be slow at updating, when they're trying to maintain a few different variations of ICS 4.0.4 at the same time? And more important - what's the point? Making further OS fragmentation? Just make one well-optimized ICS, make some small further optimization, depending on the screen resolution, CPU and GPU, put the proper drivers and here you go! They still have time to sort that out with the JB, though.

I really hope the 2011 Xperias will get Jelly Bean, because Sony promised update support for 18 months (though some phones are getting closer to that mark…). I know that new Ice Cream Sandwich firmwares are also updates, but people who are into this stuff expect no less than Jelly Bean, most of all if 2012 Xperias with equal or even worse specs will get it. Sony did an exemplary work since 2011 with updates, however with the competition apparently shifting up a gear, they cannot lean back. Let's hope for the best and of course, in Sony we trust.

No idea what it is, but judging by the SPLASH comment I would guess the Xperia V would be one of the devices?

Very interesting because its coming from the US arm .... I smell Xperia V offering via a large carrier (AT&T/T-Mobile USA?) and possibly an accessory to go with it, the NFC speaker.

They could always surprise us with a US-compatible V. Not likely, but let me keep dreaming for a bit, k?
