I believe it is ready. The LG Eclipse is also coming out with that processor this year.
I suppose if we look at Sony's roadmap dates it looks unlikely that the Mint will be running the quad-core processor. In that case, I will wait till next year for a quad-core Sony phone. I am not going to be bothered by whatever 'high-end' processor that will come next year, quad-core is future-proof enough for me.

The APQ8064 will be available around Q4 but is not intended to be used in phones since it does not come with any Wireless Radio Technologies.
The MSM8974 a quad core partial clocked between 2GHz and 2.5GHz with 2MB L2 memory that will support both LTE, HSPA+ and TD-SCDMA is supposed to be available in Q1/Q2 2013. And it will have better graphics because unlike a dual prior SoC, this one has dual LPDDR3 memory.

Yes APQ8064 doesn't come with wireless radios but that doesn't mean that it won't be used in phones. LG and HTC are gonna using it later this year. |

That is not an efficient solution at all since they have to use a separate wireless radio that will drain a lot of battery.
That is most likely part of the reason why Sony will not make a quad-core phone this year.
Battery life is becoming more and more critical to a lot of people and LG and HTC are taking short cuts just to have a quad-core phone.
In my opinion it is not the ideal solution. |

You forgot one important info that I left that "it's much more than that" Not only the active successor, how about the XS's replacement? We're having a new S added to the family tree.
From Unknown13x
Along with Active 2, Xperia S replacement will also be announced
(Personally I am feeling really bad having bought my XS just 3 weeks back )

2 gb ram, 13mpix cam and MSM08960pro @ 1.7GHZ could be enough for this year. I'm not taking SGSIII because it looks like it's just good enough, not a kind of device sgsii was last year |

Sony Mobile to focus on “hardware innovation” for future devices
Sony has said that losing Ericsson was an important step in saving its flailing mobile business, enabling the firm to become "fully integrated".
Steve Walker, Speaking at the Open Mobile Summit in London on Tuesday, Sony heralded the move as a wise step for the company, allowing it to bounce back in the mobile market. Steve Walker, chief marketing officer at Sony Mobile said, "With Ericsson, we were affiliated with the rest of the Sony group. Now, we're fully integrated."
Being fully integrated makes a big difference," he said,
Walker rubbished rumours of an Xperia PLAY 2 and said the focus was on PlayStation integration with its smartphones. “Bringing the PlayStation Network to other devices is important. Doing so creates a community based relationship with customers, like those found on social networking web sites.”
Walker did say that Sony Mobile is promising some exciting phones for the future. “When the Motorola Razr came along we were shocked, it was a true hardware innovation. We will continue to focus on this with our future devices too.”

Let me sum up the high-ends :
1. 5" device
-- The 5" 1080p quad-core Xperia in 2013
2. Mint/Hayabusa
-- I thought Japan-only GX = Mint and international version without LTE = Hayabusa
3. Ion
-- September release for Ion in France (Europe?)
4. "Xperia SS" ( )
-- Xperia S with upgraded Bluetooth 3.0 and overclocked MSM8260

I thought MSM8260 can only get up to 1.5GHz
Unknown13x just confirmed that the XS+ (or whatever you wanna call it) will have the same form factor as the GX. No surprise.

Announcement tomorrow according to unknown13x informations
"How about....tomorrow?
and no, the devices launching doesn't include the GX nor the NX nor the Mint. None are coming this soon. I don't have a timeline when they would be announced, but my tomorrow soon will be something else. Again, you all have seen it believe it or not."
