I had this problem the other day where it looked like I had full signal but couldn't make any calls.

I had only 1 bar signal so I walked up a hill where I got full bars and made a call.
As soon as the other person answered I got cut off.
I tried again; same.
Then they called me. We talked for maybe 5seconds and then same again.
Eventually we managed to get a txt sms message out.

What I found was happening is that while standing still the signal would drop from full bars to nothing. At that point the phone would switch to a non preferred fallback network (from Telefonica to Movistar). This would stay for a few seconds and then when the preferred network came back it would switch back to that even while in call and even though the non preferred network signal is ok.

It was a windy day,
the phone is a Nokia E71.
Simcard is Personal (Telefonica) in Argentina,
the only other network coverage was Movistar.

Just wondered if anyone else has seen this... or even whether there's a name for it.
