Preliminary injunction against Apple won by Motorola
Interesting. I am behind Motorola with this because Apple seems to have been particularly harsh in their recent patent disputes with other manufacturers especially Samsung. Furthermore, Apple does not want to license out their own patents either.
Let's go Moto!

This whole patent thing is very boring now, its been going on for months. Apple may have started it but they're all as bad as each other.

of course Apple didn't "start it"... Patent disputes have been going on for years.
I just did a random google and found loads (and loads) of similar cases before even Apple were making phones, such as Nokia accuses rivals of ripping off designs, patents from 2004

@masseur
Everything Apple does is 'bigged up' so the fact that they decided to sue anybody in the first place would always be big news, you do know how much hype surrounds the company? - it's part and parcel!
Nokia may have sued in the past but if Apple wants to make a great song and dance about every little thing it does then its litigation battles are going to receive just as much attention.
It's so funny reading the reactions to this on engadget and other blogs It's amazing to see and read how Apple has polarised opinions and the reactions by some are hysterical to say the least. It just gets more and more comical.
The absolute vile hatred for the company is as great as the love some people have for it. Honestly, it's getting more and more like the rivalry you normally see from competing football teams.
Edit: spelling

I wasn't disputing that point of view here, or in any topic.
But certainly this behaviour goes on all the time with all manufacturers in all industries.
its just that here we are in a mobile phone forum where Apple is marmite and people come out with all sorts of stuff and I just like to provide a bit of balance

What you guys might not have realised is that Apple, unlike many other manufacturers/patent holders, prefers to litigate rather than settle. I read somewhere recently where Apple is said not to want to license most of their patents.
Historically patent holders have opted to settle and license rather than pursue an outright ban on infringing products. Apple has changed the whole game is basically trying to end competition.

But Apple did start it this year when they first decided to take Samsung to court.
Nobody said Apple were the first to file a lawsuit ever.. for anything, but im sure Apple will claim that now i come to think of it.

I would really like to see the end of this...the whole Apple versus Them. It may already becoming sickening to all, but I do really want to see where it will going to lead. |

Thats the whole point, it'll end nowhere. Apple will never get what they want, to put every other manufacturer out of the business, so it'll just be litigation tennis until the end of eternity.
Which makes it all the more frustrating for us as consumers.
Like Masseur said, Apple arent the first to try to take someone to court, but they are probably the most aggressive in recent times. Ive no problem people or companies protecting their patents but Apple always go about things the wrong way imo.

A German court has found that Motorola has infringed on Apple's patented slide-to-unlock technology with its Android smartphones. The court victory, which is being touted as "a big win for Apple over Android," means Cupertino, in theory, has an injunction on Motorola smartphone sales in Germany.
The case relates to patent EP1964022, which covers the act of unlocking a touchscreen display by swiping your finger from one area of the screen to another.Apple owns the patent, which it has used on iOS devices since the first iPhone.
