P800 GPRS /Vodafone - Html browsing question |

Hi
waiting to get a P800, was thinking the other day about how costly browsing Html sites on the P800 browser via GPRS would be.
Does anyone have a comment on this. If you have to pay a base monthly GPRS subscription charge and then a charge for each KB or 1,000 bytes(can be 0.73p per KB) of data transferred, would this not be a hefty monthly charge if you use the browser a lot over GPRS, considering a standard html page like yahoo could be 46KB in size to be downloaded to your device.
Maybe Ive got this all wrong, if someone could put my mind at ease i would be grateful.
Thanks |

Vodafone UK. Not really prepared to be shelling out a fortune just to be able to view HTML pages on the move! Vodafone make enough money from their high call charges (goes for all networks). It seems a bit steep to charge 0.1 - 0.73p per measly KB.

So Does the 1 MB go far? Is there a menu in the P800 which can show how much data you have transferred at a given period?
Thanks |

I don't think 1Mb goes very far. I upgraded a couple of month ago to the 5mb plan on vodafone but think I could use more! They don't seem to have an unlinited plan though. Their top plan is 100Mb for £117.50! yikes! |

If you're going to use Vodafone and have a tariff under Voda 200 then it won't be cheap, in fact it's a rip off. However, if you use GPRS a lot it may be worth upgrading to either Voda Business or Voda 200 so you can get the GPRS select tariff - which is charged at about £2.30/MB. Orange seem to be the cheapest at £2/MB, which is why i'm sticking with them. |

nah. just called Vodafone and was informed the GPRS rates are the same no matter what call tariff you are on, business or not. |

worries me. I have my P800 already but have been using T68i/ipaq for over a year now on GPRS and my usage seems to increase every month!

I think they're going through a process of change...
I was very lucky with my deal as singlepoint promised GPRS to me when I signed up so they had to fulfil it. As they only ended up with 2 subscriptions they didn't put a process in place to measure how much I use... so they said £30 p.m. unlimited.
Bonus.... can't wait to rape it with the p800... |
