Sony Ericsson Xperia smartphones to receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

It's been a little back and forth with the future update plans for Sony Ericsson devices. Today, the company confirmed via its product blog that the entire portfolio of Xperia models released in 2011 plus the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update which was released by Google earlier today.

The following Xperia models will be upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich:

  • Xperia active
  • Xperia arc
  • Xperia arc S
  • Xperia mini
  • Xperia mini pro
  • Xperia neo
  • Xperia neo V
  • Xperia Play
  • Xperia pro
  • Xperia ray
  • Live with Walkman

The availability and further information about the upgrade process will be announced later by Sony Ericsson.

Excellent news! They've really turned around their bad reputation from 2010 and their first Androids. Pity about the X10 but I think they done well to endow it with Gingerbread.

This is great, when a lot of others are umming and arring about whether to update their phones.

Bring on ICS.
