Shockingly, Steve Jobs has died at the age of just 56.

I didn't expect this at all - even thought he has been pretty ill.

"Apple co-founder and Chairman Steve Jobs died today, Apple said. He was 56.
Jobs had been suffering from various health issues following the seven-year anniversary of his surgery for a rare form of pancreatic cancer in August 2004. Apple announced in January that he would be taking an indeterminate medical leave of absence, with Jobs then stepping down from his role as CEO in late August.

Indeed very sad and shocking news. Not expected in any way whosoever. He built a magnificent empire which although I do admire some of their traits I had to respect. His come back from the "wilderness" to take over the management of Apple and ultimately remaking it into the worlds most respected technology company was a driving force that all CEO's can admire.

May he rest in peace.

Oh my god the day after the new announcement aswell how sad. He was still young too. You can have all the money and success in the world but if you have not got your health. RIP Steve. Sounds terrible saying this but i bet this increases sales like what happens when pop stars die

R.I.P Steve Jobs

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. - Apple Inc.

---

We don't have any person greater than Steve Jobs when it comes to vision!

Must have been the anti climax of the 4S announcement that did it...

That is a little below the belt mate. Much as i am not a massive Apple fan the guy is dead. He was a genius and was so young still. He first had this illness back in 2004 so i read. My mom was one year younger than Steve when she died its no age.

I'm sure worse things will be said - you could only imagine what some of the anti-Apple camp might be getting up to.

This is really shocking news. RIP Steve Jobs.
He will live among us with apple's every single creation...

Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech, where he addresses his mortality. An inspiring speech, excerpt from Observer.com.

"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

I've been reading many tributes but I thought a paragraph from Barack Obama's was quite poignant:

“The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented."
