Bert Nordberg, CEO of Sony Ericsson, does not think too much of Windows Phone 7.

Head of the loss-making company, which saw its market share drop from 4.3% 2 years ago to 1.7% this year, spoke in passing about the OS to the Wall Street Journal.

Well lets just see how Nokia does as i think if Nokia does a good job and with the new Mango update. Nokia may just make it more popular. Sony Ericsson seems incapable of even making anything with more than one OS. Android is popular yes but putting all your eggs into one basket is not always the best way. But thats just my opinion

But aren't Nokia putting all their eggs in one busket with WP by off loading Symbian to Accenture, and dropping Meego?
In SE's cases they are more free to jump around if Android doesn't workout, in Nokias case they have so much tied into the MS deal that if it doesn't workout it could get REALLY messy for both, they have pumped so many resources into this deal I hope for their sake there is a bit of ROI in the end.

I think its good that SE don't jump in to WP too quickly, look how it has bitten LG, they were complaining about poor sales in terms of their WP products, HTC seems to be the only one who have had satisfactory sales.
Another thing is that WP doesn't allow much differentiation, which IMO is something SE depend highly on as they always have a very different look and feel to them, just look at their Windows Mobile phones and Android phones.

What bothers me is why is SE even getting this argument of one is better than the other?People should be given the choice to choose its why other manufacturers use multiple OS like I don't like Android anymore and I've have owned many Android devices and I happen to think Windows Phone 7.5 is better.SE are so wrong about this its unreal.

I agree with Tsepz_GP, and at one point SE had 4 different OS's on the market, Android, Java, WM and Symbian. While SE is still recovering from its change to a fully smartphone company I think android is the safest bet. Maybe in a few more years if they are once again profitable they could look at alternatives maybe even creating their own OS like samsung are doing.

Also, he's not really 'dissing' it, his exact works are: "At this point I wouldn’t feel comfortable investing in a platform that isn’t as good as the one that we currently use. Therefore we have remained with Android, but I am quite curious about Windows Phone."

Android clearly seems to be selling and is what has saved SE from fading into darkness, currently android is very popular whereas WP is not. With SE being pretty shaky atm it makes sense to stick with the stronger OS which is proving to give results. He even states that he is curious and WP, which to me would imply that he is keeping the option open and is keeping a close eye on it. If it does take off with nokia, then that would be the sensible time to bring out WP. Kind allowing other manufactures to take risks, which they can learn off without the danger of affecting their company.

I like android, and though what I have seen from WP I'm sure I could really like it but I do not see any need in SE to make WP at the moment

That's a fair comment and I can't argue with that but I personally don't want Android anymore I frankly prefer WP7 as it suits me better as it has more in common with my other favourite on the iphone so SE's decision to stick to Android will put me off buying another SE phone again.

Poor Bert, he has been slagged off for making his preference for Android known - he wasn't really dissing anything.

I agree that they shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket but they should be on a secure financial footing before they should commit resources to an OS that is yet to guarantee a good financial return - it costs millions to bring a new phone to market, does it not?

He has also admitted that they are paying now for underestimating the iPhone and having no other strategy other than to flood the market with copycat Walkman and Cyber-shots in an attempt at grabbing market share - a very expensive mistake.

UIQ was a missed opportunity IMO - that could have developed into something unique - isn't HTC now exploring developing it's own OS?

I hope they can turn things around - their 2011 Xperias are a step in the right direction at least.

Technically you can run Windows apps in Linux as well through Wine. But its still not the same. It simply
does not work as well. While Nokias try to offer Android "compatibility" is admirable, it remains to be seen how
well it will work in reality (I have my doubts).

Where did you read that?
AFAIK That's for Meego with the whole Alien Dalvik engine, not their WP devices, I doubt MS would allow that to happen.
