I've been using a k790 for a couple of years, bought second hand in not the best shape but it's worked perfectly, until a few weeks ago...I got the "An application is already running" error when trying to use the camera. I love this phone very much, but the camera was the main this I used it for so I must get a replacement now.

I tried a k850, brand new, but the lens shutter wouldn't open when turning on the camera. Come to find out this is a common problem with this phone, as well as the lens cover collecting dust and other things.

So, I started looking at the c905, but found a ton of messages about the earpiece going out, slider getting loose, directional pad breaking, screen screwing up (flipping upside down/mirror image?) and a bunch of other things. Should I be worried? How much of a problem are these things, really? I don't want to buy another phone that's a dud but I can't live without the CyberShot camera on these phones.

What about the C902? I don't need the 8mp, 5 is more than enough, but is the quality/reliability of the c902 better? I wasn't able to find messages about problems as easily as with the c905.

Or the C702? 3.2mp (like the k790) is fine for me, and again, I had less luck finding messages about problems with it.

Has anyone had recent experience with these phones who could give some advice about them? Does anybody still use any of them?

lol yeah Have you had any problems with the earpiece, keypad, etc on the c905? It seems like a lot of people have which worries me. Also, do the soft keys hold up well?

I have no experience of the SE C-series.
My only dedicated camera-phone is the aged K850i. Wich have problem to hold it own to the J20i Hazel.

The K850 having some awesome camera functions like the row of buttons for camera control (the buttons lights-up in camera-mode).

Have put the K850 on a camera tripod, but the K850i have no tripod mount
Taken with the J20i Hazel, with the HTC Desire HD in the background playing music from Spotify.

C901 is your answer. Xenon flash with top notch sensors. Excellent build quality, almost non-existent physical problems and slick looking too. It's the super affordable compact digicam you'll be around anywhere you go. I can't say the exact same for the other Cybershots you mentioned. Some might mention saturation and stuff but that's subjective and can easily be corrected with the preset scenes it has if you're not into modding. I can confidently say C901 is your choice

c901 camera is way worse then c905.........the only thing c901 can is to shoot daylight pictures.....thats it.

.......just look at the lowlight quality (colours and everything) and you see how much better image sensor c905 has. (and if you cant see that...you need glasses....strong glasses)

@Plank
Nobody said about C901 cam being better than C905. The guy needs to upgrade from K790, and is concerned with build quality and apparent issues on some of the phones in his list. I have to respond honestly. I apologize in all earnesty to you that I wouldn't recommend C905 because the issues are real and widespread. It would be irresponsible for me to recommend it when everyone I know who has the C905 has the earpiece /ribbon problems, some vowed never to return to SE after having it as their first SE ever.

You also said C901 night photos are not so good as compared to C905, perhaps so but it is still an upgrade of better quality than K790.

Let's be objective shall we and stop the bickering about which has the better sensor as both have top quality sensors for their respective range. But let's face it, C901 is dirt cheap and has no hardware issues while possessing high end imaging prowess for a mobile phone. It even looks sleek and slim, which I can't say the same for C905. My suggestion is based on these facts after weighing in everything, not just night shots.

Thanks everybody for your input! It's funny how 10 people will have 10 totally different opinions.

I did end up looking mostly at the C901, but they aren't as easy to find as some of the other models. I also thought about the C702 but again they're harder to find...

I bought and tested a brand-new k850 but the lens cover wouldn't open when the camera was turned on. I took that as a very bad sign, returned it and crossed k850 and C905 off the list permanently. I also didn't like the directional pad being around some of the number buttons (hard to use) and I don't like "soft buttons" so in the end I was glad the lens cover wouldn't open since it was a legitimate excuse to return it.

I have recently gotten a k810 after finding out it's basically the same at the k800 and k790. I like the phone very much, it feels sturdier than the k790 and it's slimmer and flatter on the back which is nice (the lens slider doesn't stick out like k790). The only problem is the pictures don't look at nice as my k790, they are kind of washed out and oversaturated. I'm trying to figure out if that can be fixed.
