Right, Gurus, need some advice. My daughter is going to the States at the beginning of the month and wants to take her iPhone 4 which is on an Orange phone/data contract. While over there, she wants to Twitter and use FaceTime to talk to my Granddaughter using wifi. She doesn't want emails etc but doesn't want to come back to a big surprise bill.
So what does she turn off on the phone to ensure this? Can she Twitter etc without running up bills?
Any advice would be useful. She rang Orange but they confused her! So uncomplicated please!
Thanks
Doug

by default on the iphone, data roaming is turned off so when out of the country it will not let you do anything requiring data via the network, so only data using wifi will work

check it by going to settings -> general -> network

Thanks, Masseur, I will tell her that. So is there a need for her to do anything else? As long as data roaming is off, she won't get any charges?
And she gets spam calls over here. Is it a case of as long as she doesn't answer them, she'll be okay? That's if they bother ringing her of course.

in the same screen you could also turn off "mobile data" which then hides the option of roaming data and I suppose makes doubly sure that no network data will be used.

Also, you could go into settings -> general -> usage and click "reset statistics" at the bottom and then keep an eye on the "mobile network data" section to ensure it doesn't go above zero, which it shouldn't having taken the previous precautions.
