when in a phone call or in standby just press joystick left for about 3 seconds.
That way it is much quicker than having to go through the menus |

Doing that is just a shortcut to the first item in your shortcut menu, it will only work hd sound recorder is the top item in your shortcut menu. I use this shortcut to access my profiles

Alternatively you can press the options button when you are in a call and there is the Record function for you.

A advantage of doing the joystick one is that you are able to playback voicenotes without going through the menus.
