Sony is currently one of the few pc manufactures without a tablet in the product portfolio. This is about to change later this year when Android Honeycomb powered Sony Tablet S1 and S2 will be available in stores
Esato News

It is not the first time we hear about a Sony Tablet, but this time it's official. A press release released today tells us that two Sony Tablets with code name S1 and S2 will be released later this year. Both will be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The S1 will have a 9.4 display, while S2 is a smaller device with two 5.5 inch displays. We have seen the folded dual-display earler in Android mobile phones such as the Kyocera Echo but it is the first time for a Android tablet. Both the S1 and S2 will offer 3G connectivity as well as Wi-Fi. It will be possible to control home entertainment devices using one of the Sony Tablets. They will both offer DLNA so most media stored on the tablet will be streamable to larger televisions and screens. |

Beautiful looking forward to these, the S1 looks more classy than all the tablets on the market, knew they'd pull of something good.

not at all. its just the first version that has been specifically built with tablets in mind, including larger high res screens etc.
There are already rumours about what would be the first honeycomb smartphone, such as HTC Saga, HTC pyramid etc etc
btw... surely these will be in Vaio brand when actually released and given official names(?)

this is the reason why I hold myself from buying ipad or other tablets. I was waiting for Sony and I know sony will deliver. Both of the tables are very nice. But I like S1 more. It is nice to see Sony managed to come up with beautiful design better than the rest. |

It different market purposes and I don't think going to have much severe after this announcement but instead Japan's crisis severely cost for them due to product shortage. What a unlucky
Actually if there no disaster occurred in March, XPERIA Arc is likely going to be hits along with Neo and moderately of XPERIA Play and Pro.
S2 is fabulous for me, just simply jump of the page!

same set of pics but with in-depth analysis by CNET, worth the read.
Funny, i had the same gut reaction to the S2 when I saw it - the split screen display reminded me so much of the DSi

Introduction of the S1/S2 at the Sony IT Mobile meeting - wish I understood Japanese so I could translate it for you guys. The S1 seems to be very light for a tablet judging from the way the speaker handles it and the S2 is incredibly compact for a device of its class. |
