Gmail backup methods

acton Joined: Jan 27, 2011 Posts: 23 PM	Posted: 2011-03-04 05:44 Gmail�s e-mail loss last week gave me a bit of a scare and made me realize I actually don�t back my e-mail up that much. I used Thunderbird in the past and there�s a bunch of Windows-based back-up programs available, but I�m a mac user. Also made me think about whether to choose about cloud-based backups or local backups. What do you think?

Any POP based client will do the trick. I'd get Thunderbird, not fond of Mac's built in Mail client or Safari (which, for me, is far worse than IE) Google and any cloud based email provider has way more resources at its disposal to back up your email, but having your own local storage won't hurt. It would depend on how much mail you actually have. I'm pushing the 7GB limit of Google, on just my personal account... but then again, there's a lot of mail I could probably do without as well. Cloud based, for me, is much better. Just don't back-up your Gmail on a Google based back-up as well... hahahaha... Use Dropbox for large files and documents. One of the tips I received from a friend was to forward all my mail to another Gmail account, but yeah, that's not too smart, lol. I use dropbox now, and maybe I should look into some cloud-based services.. Thanks again!
