Ni own both arc and neo.
In neo With 2.3.2 sw the loud speaker was creating distortion in max volume. But after updating the issue got fixed.
Comparing with arc. I dont observe any performance difference.
1 major diff i observed is the screen brightness. Arc screen brightness is almost double as neo. I dont know wy its like that. |

So I got my Neo now.
Too early to say anything about it, but have to ask something.
It seems to me that the microphone records with way too much bass, making my voice sound completely different to the recipient during a call. That is rather annoying. What gives?
Anyone knows of this issue? Is there a fix?
EDIT: This is happening regardless of the "suppress background noise" option being on or off.

Well my Neo has been returned.
Too many people I talked with over the phone, said they had trouble hearing what I said. That my voice sounded muddy or had way too much bass. Waiting to get a new one.
Meanwhile, I noticed that video-recordings has the same unacceptable "feature" as the Vivaz did: The volume in video-recordings is insanely low.
When the Vivaz had this problem, and no fix ever came for it, I excused Sony Ericsson thinking that it was probably just an overlooked design flaw and that they at least would have learned from it, but apparently no.
Don't buy Arc / Neo / Pro if video-recording has high priority.
Aino and Elm and the likes has much better audio in video-recordings. Much better.
It's so strange that every new model from SE seems to do worse than their previous model. Or maybe it's just the areas I focus on. I don't get it. |

Have you tried holding the Neo and another phone at the same time recording the same video with both, and then compare audio on the videos afterwards? My Aino gives a much much better sound.
Surely the Neo gives a better picture, but that's just not enough for me. |

This is just too weird.
I'm noticing now, that some videos recorded with an Arc are fine regarding audio volume. But my Neo has insanely low audio-volume on videos. How can this be? Isn't it supposed to be the same hardware?
Could it be that SE has used some lesser quality components because they were running short of components due to the Japan disaster? |

I have no issue at all with the video recording on my Neo , the audio volume is pretty loud , if anything it's a bit too loud.
Maybe you just have a defective handset. |

That's possible. I sent it back yesterday, so will see if I get a new one of if they replace the components. |

Well, I bought another Neo and must conclude that Neo simply has a lesser quality microphone than Arc.
If we say that Aino audio-volume in video-recordings are 100%, then
my Nokia N82 also gives me 100%
my Vivaz Pro gives me only about 40% (piece of crap)
my Neo gives me about 60%
and my coworker's Arc gives 100%
(EDIT: I've done those tests by recording the same video with the Neo + one of the above at the same time. If anyone can do the same test, and claim that their Neo gives the same audio-volume as e.g. Arc, then I'd really like to hear about it).
The microphone in Neo is clearly much worse than the one in Arc. And I find that completely ridiculous. That renders Neo useless to me, and Arc is too big.

Just shot a video with my neo, and in my subjective point of view it sounds pretty loud. I shot with untouched settings at 720p. Hard to say what is loud thouch, my loud could be your low.. Could it be a convertion issue or do you compare the original videos? I'd like to think it's a software thing, did you update to 2.3.3? |
