When I was running TipicME today my P800 crashed and the display showed the 10 sek reset thing. But i refused to reset my phone, after all I had not made a backup for 3 days, so after figureing out that there was no way to skip the problem I did the last thing I could.
TAKE OUT THE BATTERY !!!!
Then after a few seconds i put it in again and everything was normal !
Really glad for that ... hope it helps you to !

I don't think you loose any data on it just for that 10sec reset, at least I haven't noticed any losses.

The 10 sec reset is a soft reset not a hard reset. You won't lose any data if you perform this type of reset. I would consider that the chance of data loss is actually higher if you remove the battery rather than if you perforn the soft reset.
The P800 does not have a hard reset apart from the Master Reset in the menus.

Sooo many threads about the p800 crashing, the reliability of the thing must really be questioned.

Mine has been very reliable. The only issue I have had, and then not recently, is the famous sonyericsson logo in the cam viewfinder which is easily fixed anyway.
much more stable than my ipaq 5450 which I have to soft reset several times a day |

I don't think its too unstable. I've had my P800 for 2 weeks now and I've only experienced a 10 sec Reset message once, and I would say I'm a heavy power user so it's not like its been sat in my pocket doing nothing.

Longer than most I'm sure. Anyway, I notice my set only crashes when memory is low and l'm running several programs at once or one huge program like stuntcar.

The only time my p800 has crashed, was when I was trying to install a new 3rd party piece of software.
Which, from my standpoint is not the fault of the P800. It's people learning how to develop for the p800 and will improve over time.

I would strongly encourage the 10 sec (soft) reset if and when prompted to do so. Like mentioned above, the chances of losing and corrupting data are greater if you simply remove the battery. I have had a P800 since the Metrowerks pre-commercial days and experienced 4-5 "reset" screens while using R1A, and about 2 or so with R1B.
