I'm unsure if your looking at an upgrade or getting it sim free but it sounds like that o2 Sales person didn't know what they were talking about as the Arc is being released this Friday at other retailers, thats stores and internet. Perhaps phone o2 if you want it directly from them to find out a proper date as end of April isn't right.

Kinda childish attitude in here. Just out of curiosity Toney, why do you think the Arc is a piece of crap cell? Considering the small differences between Arc and DHD I'd say it's pretty much a choice between two similar devices.

Build quality for me, thats something Sony Ericsson need to get right. Really put off by the cheap plastic.

Any ways a review from Engadget today

The review from engadget is the funniest thing i've ever read, facts:

-they say that "Sony Ericsson has opted for a trifecta of physical buttons on the Xperia Arc (the Back and Menu keys have swapped positions from the X10 arrangement), which are thankfully wide, easily identifiable, and highly intuitive to use. Aside from the good clicky responsiveness of each button, that's in large part down to the omission of the Search key, which we can't say we missed at all. Its absence paves the way for SE to center the Home button (a good thing) and generally simplifies a user control scheme that hardly needed to be quite so complex to begin with. The only downside to the Arc's buttonry is one we spotted with the Xperia Play as well -- there's no illumination for the key labels in the dark. You get a pair of lights marking the division between each key, but their purpose is basically indecipherable when the phone's used in the dark. An easily forgivable little foible, we'd say, on what is a very satisfying keypad."

So, they are easily identifiable and high intuitive to use BUT you want them to be iluminated too because you can't identify them in the dark... woot! bullshit.

-They say it's very beautiful, but the curvature and being too thin "does hold the Xperia Arc back from being one of the easiest-handling smartphones in the 4-inch-plus division"

Okey, so why they didn't say nothing about that in the iPhone4 review? It's thin and doesn't have any kind of curvature or ergonomics for the human hand.

-They say that it has a really good screen but with bad viewing angles, true, but they talk much more about the bad things(just that one), like if everyone use the phone from the side...

-They say it has a camera button...but instead of being a good thing, they say that it is very close to the corner...wtf? so other phones like the iPhone4, SGSI or SGSII don't have it and nobody cares but now this is a bad thing...funny.

-They say that the camera is really good, but the interface "is more of a hit and miss affair.", why? because they say that it's well done but "displeased us a little with its scant array of available tweaks, which curiously enough doesn't even allow you to toggle the Arc's Macro mode on and off.", okey, here we go:

[img][/img]

Bah...just 3 or 4 tweaks at all...ah and of course, there is a manual macro mode, how come they say there isn't?

-They don't say nothing about sound quality(music-radio-video with earphones and with the speaker), voice quality, GPS speed, etc

-Funniest thing, they gave it a 7/10, but the HTC incredible S, with the same chipset, more ram, worse screen, worse design, worse camera and android 2.2 have a 8/10...okey...sure

About build quality, a thing that you love to talk about a lot, they say that:
Overall build quality feels robust and durable, though we're again under the impression that Sony Ericsson wasn't spending too richly in obtaining the construction materials.

and other websites say this:
The Arc feels solidly constructed, with no loose parts. Although it is light, it doesn’t feel “plasticky” unlike some other smartphones. The 4 sides are lined with an aluminium finish and overall, the unit looks very classy and not “tackily cheap”. It certainly attracted a few glances when I took it out of my pocket when I was in cafes having a meal.

So it seems that it isn't so plasticky as some think

The camera UI is better on my HTC than that so I agree with that review about being a "scant array". Not much thought has gone into that UI either.

I phoned CPW yesterday and they called o2 while I was on the phone. o2 told them that they will have the Arc on their network by the 7th April. That's next Thursday. Fingers crossed

The Desire HD instead of Auto, fill-flash, red eye reduction and flash off it has Auto, manual and off...it doesn't even have MACRO MODE so what the hell are you talking about? those vignette and bullshit modes that can be done with the photoshop app? don't make me laugh please does it even has predefined scenes? , from mobile review:
You can make your own judgment about the picture quality by taking a look at the samples below. Although there is no macro mode in the device, close-up shots are not that bad. However in general, despite its 8-megapixel camera, the HTC Desire HD is as poor in terms of picture quality as its predecessors. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S and Sony Ericsson X10, its camera appears weak, especially in the photo shooting mode.

Have fun

Go have a look on xda then there's close up macro shots on there. The DHD auto focuses yes and the same happens with close up macro type shots. You should go read up about it as you obviously don't know anything.

Auto Focus is crap for macro shots, here and at XDA, from phonearena:
Focusing is a bit of an issue, with shots out of focus roughly 10% of the time. Colour reproduction is on the whole okay, however inconsistent. While some shots, such as that of the post box produce a decent level of saturation, others look dull, and others washed out. Detail isn't too bad at all in well lit environments, however, any night shots don't even need to be zoomed into to notice the crackle. Exposure is also very inconsistent. The camera interface allows for touch to focus, which also controls what we presume to be spot metering, and there is an exposure bar which can be adjusted, however, in automatic, we found that the HTC Desire HD got it wrong more often than we would have hoped.

GSMArena
the Desire HD camera wouldn’t rank among the top 8MP Android shooters (or 8MP cameras in general).

And please, stop talking about xda like if we are retarded or so, it's not the first time i read you talking about "you are at xda, we don't and don't know anything at all", probably most of us have an account there

HTC's camera on their devices (be it Android or WP7) wasn't really that good. It's HTC's least priority when making a phone. This is coming from HTC Desire experience.

Xactly. HTC cameras are well known for their weakness.
As for imaging I don't take anything besides , some Nokias are nice too.
