Hello guys & gals. As you already know I have a very fussy taste in mobile phones & am very fickle when it comes to quality. Well,I guess we all are really. But anyway I wanted to tell the real story behind my changes this year. Why? Cos maybe I do confuse you all on here as to what my taste is & why I do what I do. Sometimes I have had one or two phones twice Anyway,as you already know I have been so fussy I have not stuck with anything, till now. Back in November I signed upto a contract with T Mobile with a HTC Desire HD. First impressions were great until I had complaints about the camera, lag & poor battery life. Well,to my surprise & yours too no doubt I still have the Desire HD Now,what I have done since this time is buy a few other phones to test them & ended up returning them within the allotted time if not satisfied. I tried out the X10 again to see what it was like with 2.1 update. It was better but still not good enough with terrible lag. Anyway,I also for a short time had the N8 which whilst an improvement in Symbian 3 was still lacking & fruitless in the end despite a wonderful camera. Now,since then I have purchased a Samsung Google Nexus S which in the end proved a fantastic mobile Android experience but with an issue I could not live with. The screen turned out to be NOT scratch resistant which for me for an expensive mobile is a worry & I detest screen protectors. Also another issue as with all recent Samsung mobiles including the Wave,Galaxy S & so on. OVERHEATING. This phone along with alot of other Samsung mobiles for me have badly over heated & shut down many times. I am not sure what causes this more than likely the processor over heating. But it certainly worried me. Anyway,it was quickly returned.

Now to everyone's surprise all this time I have kept my contract phone the HTC Desire HD. I never did sell it. Why?? Well, despite my bad points I mentioned about the HTC I decided to wait for an update to see if any improvements were made. And yes there was. There has been two small updates since it's release OTA. This has improved the slight lag, battery life seems longer & camera no longer has the blurry focus issue. So,there you go I still have my HTC Desire HD which for once everyone I have stuck with. It truly is a wonderful phone. And rather than saying anything I thought inbetween I thought I would test some other devices. Now,I always wanted a 2nd mobile as a back up so on top of this I have ordered a white Aino which is coming this week I hope for 226. So there is my story folks & so you all realise now I have finally settled on a fantastic device which I gave a chance I am fussy yes but who is not when your paying good money. You might think I am crazy but right now the Desire HD is one of if not the best Android device to beat on the market. It's a pity Google never worked with HTC again to bring Gingerbread cos I really thought Samsung could make it good. They have made it good with alot of the Nexus S but I am not sticking with a mobile that feels like it might burn out Again,I jumped in early. But for me the HTC has been my overall favourite but I still want a good old Aino so that's what I am getting.

great story Bono, it's always a bit funny when i login and see your signature has changed, but at the end of the day it's about what suits you and to find out what that is it's always good to try out a bunch of devices for sometime before making a final decision, the DesireHD and Aino are a nice balance, if you get sick of the large size and geek-ish Android, you can just switch to the sleek and stylish Aino and vice versa, hope they keep you happy for atleast the next few weeks , i like the DesireHD more than the Nexus S, ive never been a fan of Samsung although they make great hardware, i just could never get used to owning one.

I only have an Aino and I'm happy
Do whatever you want Bono. it's nobody's business to judge your Phone's habit.
HTC's are ugly but if they do the job I wouldn't care either.
Good luck, and have a splendid 2011

Camera has improved with update on HTC. But I shall mostly use the Aino for the monthly shootout. I just took this macro now it's better. I wanted to say all this cos sometimes I feel a bit silly cos I keep changing & I often wonder what people think Though I know I should not care. Hihi the Desire HD looks & feels lovely in the hand from the front in the flesh but ugly from the rear

You should open your own reviews section if you get the time, your insights are worth a lot since you've tried something from every company out there. It beats listening to fan boy slagging matches. Like yourself, I went through many phones but I stuck to the original HTC Desire, it has yet to disappoint me.

Yes, I could do that cos I think too many reviews are biased towards a certain manufacturers. Whereas myself give most manufacturers a go. I have had so many phones over the years since 1997 I could never remember but this year has been a real fickle one for me but I have settled now.

Bono, that is not just about fussy taste, this is beginning to sound like a dangerous mental condition here.

Anyway, good luck with the HD.

But you have to explain two points here:

- You complained about the Nexus S' screen and internal temp, yet, HTC are known to produce the worst hardware-quality within the seven major smartphone manufacturers at the mean time!
Not sure about scratch resistance on the Nexus S, but that's the highest rated and most praised screen technology in the market right now!
Other than that, the HD's screen is one of the lowest rated and most bashed LCDs in the market.
You have all the right to avoid a non-resistant scratch screen, but the alternative you went with isn't any better!

As to other hardware issues, HTC are known to make the worst build qualities, worst micros, and worst speakers as well.
Add that funny battery slot to that package, and you blaming Samsung for one hardware issue not everybody is suffering at (I first heard about it from you) doesn't make sense..

- You praised the N8 even more than I did praise for the past two weeks! And you somehow hinted it's a clear choice out of the current competition.
What changed?!
And as you waited weeks for that Desire update, why didn't you wait two to three weeks (mid January) till the N8's update whereas Nokia promised 50 Symbian^3 enhancements including a new browser?!
And then the second quarter to witness another major update including new overall UI as well.

Any further comments from you on these two points would be welcomed.
As obviously, at least me, I can't argue with you regarding all those phones as I simply didn't own them all as you did.
All I can do is share my views based on my knowledge and experience regarding the operating systems, not phones overall though..

Yes I know I praised the N8 but then the age old Symbian issue reared it's ugly head again OUT OF MEMORY. And that was only when running Opera. Also the Desire HD has great build except the sim cover other than that it's solid. I would also say has been known for the worst build quality on the market. In all the time I have had the Desire HD I have not had any hardware issues though yes the speaker is weak but I still sometimes hear it out in a noisy street & vibrate is strong. The screen looks fantastic & yes it's true it is not as vibrant as S-AMOLED but I care not. I have not any marks on the HD screen build is solid. As for the Nexus well, before I sent it back a tiny hair thin mark appeared at the bottom of the screen after one day. Thankfully the store never noticed this but I did. No such occurance has happened on the HTC. The Nexus & the Wave both became so hot whilst using them it worried me. It was far hotter than a normal phone goes & as I said it then shut down. Samsung do make great hardware sometimes but some of their hardware causes me concern. The Samsung Wave over heating issue is on the web it was not just me.

+1

@Bonovox Either you're lyk me or i'm lyk you.
M very fastidious about quality. And sadly till now there is no mobile phone in the market for me which is 100% perfect in all aspects. These are the strategies of mobile companies. They never consider persons like me, you (& many others we don't know).
Havn't tried Nexus S, but Galaxy S has not scratch-resistant screen.

Btw i've had no warming(overheating) and shutting down (or restarting) issues with this phone. [addsig]

Well I did it got really hot then kept turning off like the processor went into overdrive Anyway, yes true I know that no phone will ever be perfect unless we goto the manufacturers in person & pay them money personally to build the perfect phone for us. Fat chance One thing I will say the Desire HD has never froze, turned itself off or crashed.

l0l, same i had with my ex-W995. It got a very thin scratch on left side of screen only after a few days which was hardly noticeable but that was so irritating for me that i had to sent it back...

People say me that this is not normal behaviour and i should neglect such minor things. But that is not possible for a person like me... [addsig]
