It supports the following codex
H.263 Profile 0 level 10 ; H.263 Profile 0 level 45 ; H.263 Profile 3 level 10 ; H.263 Profile 3 level 45 ; H.264 Level 1 ; H.264 Level 1b ; MPEG-4 Level 0 Part 2 Visual Simple profile ; MPEG-4 Level 0b Part 2 Visual Simple profile ; MPEG-4 Level 1 Part 2 Visual Simple profile ; MPEG-4 Level 2 Part 2 Visual Simple profile ; MPEG-4 Level 3 Part 2 Visual Simple profile ; Real Video 8 ; Windows Media Video 9 Local + streaming: QCIF@15 fps 128 kbit/s
In addition to the MP4, MPEG4 and 3GP file formats you allready have mentioned, you should be able to play WMV9 (.wmv) and Real Video 8 (.rm) video files as well |

When you get sound only means that the resolution of the video is higher than the supported.

Use ImTOO 3GP Video Converter 3 and these settings:
Example video with these settings: Nelly Furtado - Say it right.mp4 (I just change extension from *.3gp to *.mp4)

Each clip has a different Frame Rate. You must configure the program to match the frame of the original clip.
Click right button on clip (for each clip one by one you must click right button to see frame rate) :

It will lag when the video is encoded with the incorrect codec. Please note that .MP4 is not necessarily the format but they are a container, just like avi. For example a DIVX4/5, XVID, MPEG4, H264, etc... are all based on similar Mpeg4 video encoding but are still different from each other.
The codec to be used for converting video that will play on A2 is simple Mpeg4, which is also known as Mpeg4 ASP. Also, A2 doesn't decode VBR well so make sure you choose CBR bitrate.
Video codec: Simple Mpeg4, Mpeg4 ASP
Note: Xvid or Divx may not play properly or at all
Size: 320x240 or as per screen size
Bitrate: 400-500kbps CBR. Higher may cause lag.
Audio: AAC 44,1KHz CBR
