There's really no higher compliment a cameraphone can receive than when a professional team of photographers is blown away by the results they're able to achieve when using it, so Nokia's N8 gets a well-earned tip of the hat for shooting the December / January cover of South African photography mag PiX.

This reminds me of a fashion shoot done with an iPhone 3GS, here's the video.
I think you can get really nice crisp shots out of any camera that has enough resolution to look sharp when printed out A4 size (>5MP) The most important thing to making the shots look so good is the lighting that's used. They use very expensive beamed lights, reflectors and materials to soften the light. That's the main thing that makes a photo look as good as it does in a professional shot for a magazine.
The disadvantages of camera-phones is that the photos always come out looking flat, you can't get depth of field like you can on DSLRs or Micro 4/3s cameras because of the lens quality restriction, but as this shows you can still get nice results from a camera-phone in good light.

Not everyone is into Android sure its a great OS but many people still prefer symbian and Symbian ^3 OS on the N8 is pretty good.

N8, ignoring the fact that it has the lame symbian... But the camera is amazing , the USB On The Go is the best feature of them all, everything works!... the HDMI is really useful, FM transmitter is a wonder, Divx Xvid playback, Bluetooth 3.0, 16 GB of internal memory + 32 from Micro SD. GREAT AMOLED display, elegant construction and feeling... I'm satisfied. I don't give a damn about the Symbian.

Honestly N8 and N82 were Nokia's perfect born camera phones other imaging centric models have been underwhelming due to the following shortcomings
N90 - barrel distortion and poor indoors,
n93 - Very high Noise and real life optical zoom is 2.77x not 3
N95 - heavy NR, (though slightly fixed at later firmwares)
N96 - Image quality a far cry from N82
N95 8GB - no lens cover, no xenon flash for a flagship device (at its time)
N86, no xenon flash and resolution deprived vs Samsung innov8 thanks to its wide angle
N97 - Yellowish photos, 5 mp resolution on high end phone while the rest at its time have more and better (C905/InnoV8/Satio/Pixon12)
N9 - Nokia dared to give its N8-spoiled users a camera phone that's a far cry from their brilliant device
** Notice the number 8 associated with Nokia's best camera phones, if nokia's CEO is superstitious he should make a new flagship imaging device bearing that number as well

I now have an N8 again and just loving the camera again. Symbian Belle is a much awaited update and even now i have had no issues with it no freezing or restarts and great battery too. @mriley i kind of agree with you but the n8 is different and does give crisper shots than any other phone still even now. @Julias yes I agree about the OS I love WP & Android too I was just making a point

The lens seems quite tough to scratches I find. But I don't think a 5 meg camera phone will beat the N8 at a shoot like this. I know it's not all about mega pixels as mriley said but the N8 is a really excellent quality lens & sensor. The detail when taking things like portraits is excellent. @ razec the number 8 is a lucky Chinese number

I think the N95 had the best 5mp camera for the whole of 2007 & 2008, better than SE's K850i had by a mile.
Purely in my opinion of course. My sister had a K850i and it was totally useless for taking great pictures with ease. I did a comparison at the time using her phone and my N95 8gb to photograph her qualification as a solicitor at the law society in London. The SE was totally useless in all conditions where the N95 was as good if not better than her boyfriends standalone compact digital camera.
So my N95 became the phone which captured all the pictures which were then printed in glossy paper and framed for our entire family.

I do agree that N95 8GB takes great pics, but remember its predecessor had a lens cover,so comparing N95 8GB to the original version it's still a downgrade, also N95 8GB was announced alongside N82 (which had lens cover and xenon flash) which easily takes over the flagship N95 8gb despite being classified as a step lower in class, N8 is forgivable since we moved to the trend of slim phones where a proper lens cover would not be that feasible and N95 8GB is as thick as a brick.
I updated my previous post with regards to why N95 8GB had been underwhelming - imho
