I have had my Dell Studio 15 coming up for 2 years now and already it's starting to die. Keeps going slow (I've already defragged), when starting up will display a blank screen for ages sometimes, batterys not lasting long at all now. And I've had problems with loose hinges and touch sensitive buttons from the start, which are now worse.
I'm now out of warrenty and I doubt it's worth spending the money on it trying to repair it. Has anyone else had problems with dell?
And most importantly, is this HP laptop any good? http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hp-g62-b26sa-white-07757057-pdt.html £400 is the absolute max I can spend, don't even wanna spend that much. Using it for music, iplayer, work, net etc
Thanks |

If getting a laptop, then I dont recommend choosing an AMD processor.
Have a look at these:

I have an Acer & I have had not a single issue with it. In addition HP/Compaq have gone down in terms of reliability. Dell on the other hand are excellent imo. Never get any laptop or pc with a Celeron they are the worst ever. Mine has AMD II Athlon Quad Core & it's speedy as hell

Core i3 are very capable CPUs. The graphics on these laptops isn't outstanding, but if you're not a gamer then they will be enough. Two of my friends have Acer laptops and not a complaint heard from them about it. |

I certainly wouldn't say Dell were excellent. They class problems due to poor quality 'wear and tear'. Well I've had the thing 2 months and already 2 of the usb ports I never use are broken. They eventually fixed them after me spending f**k knows how long on the phone to people that spoke basic english. I've had the dell technitions out 3 times, and the charge you 30 quid each time. May as well have spent the money on a better laptop.
I don't understand what is wrong with AMD processors....?
What latop have you got Bonovox? And do you mind me asking how much you paid? My issue with acer is will they last? Because my dell hasn't and it's clearly a waste of money |

I wouldnt recommend Dells as they are cheap for a reason, they dont last. Dells service is pretty rubbish too. In my experience HP laptops are reliable (they went through a period of unreliability with graphics failures but this was actually NVidias fault (it also affected IBM's). HP's customer service is excellent as well.

Firstly, avoid Advent, PC World/Currys/Comet crappy brand, they are really unreliable, I get loads of those on repair all the time

I know what your saying, but a lot of the time Dell's aren't even that cheap, even in their "Outlet" store. They are poorly built with cheap parts.

+1 I have the new AMD Phenom II X6 Black Edition (6 core) processor @ 3.0ghz, now overclocked, and it's super speedy. No idea what the problem is at all, I personally find them better and speedier than Intel equivalents.

Id avoid hp aswell, most of them overheat or die fairly quicky, acer is meant to be the best make, and i also don't understand whats wrong with amd, my laptop has a full amd board, processor , graphics card and motherboard, ive never had any problems with it and it performs very well for a midrange set-up.

I am not talking about desktop AMD processors here, because it's a different story.
Mobile AMD processor are not as powerful as Intel i3 series processors. In the price range here, the Intel i3 470M outperforms AMD Phenom II N830 (Triple-core) in all benchmark tests. I am not saying AMD processors are faulty etc. I am saying that in this price range the Intel processors outperform AMD ones by a fair mark while emitting less heat and using less power. |

I've always had the impression that Acer are well, cheap and shit ahahaa and HP are really good. But now I'm hearing that HP aren't all that and Acer are the ones to go for. I'm all confused now, I think I might go and have a look at some tomorrow.
Thanks for everyones help, keep the posts coming |

My Hp laptop lasted 2 days before the paint started coming off the keyboard, and it runs hot if i push it, converting a hd film i had it at 60c, on a good note it's good for what i mainly use it for audio it doesn't transfer any interference or noise to my extenal dac.

HP used to be one of the best but not anymore. I have had an Acer Aspire PC AX3300 AMD Athlon II Quad Core for ages now & I get great speeds & reliability no problems with Acer for me.
