Hi all,

I got my P800 screen cracked accidentially. I think it caused by hard press on the number pad since I've put it in the back pocket of my jeans.

Anyone could help in telling me where I can have it repaired? I've tried to contact SE UK but they said they still can't repair this model since it's not on the market yet. Please help.

hey alfacom,

I know exactly how you feel - same thing happened to me... the keypad is really dangerous for the screen as any pressure on it means pressure on one stylus point going straight into the screen - crack is inevitable...

much better to go keypad less and spread the pressure over the whole screen...

Anyway, about repairs. I simply sent mine back to the store in sweden where I bought it - and they are repairing it now. I should have it back in my hands on monday (it took three weeks, but that was due to delivery of spareparts from SE).

So my first suggestion would be to call the store where you bought it and ask if they can service it (if they sell it they should be able to service it).

Second suggestion would be to call SE in Sweden and ask them to refer you to their advanced service centre - who will be able to fix it (and the postage there should be cheaper than to the phillipines from the UK).

Good luck!

I'll report back when I know the final cost of repair, it looks like it will be around £100 all inclusive.

Thanks BFG. The worst case is I'm living in Hong Kong and I've tried to call SE days ago, they said it can't be repaired in Hong Kong since it's still not on the market yet.

Anyhow, I think it's a kind of their product design problem.

@Alfacom, as i have said in many posts before, i am sure this will go on happening on a large scale,as the little metal pins do indeed concentrate any pressure which is a perfect way to break glass with very little pressure, the keypad looks tough but what happens is it moves sideways & comes of the edge allowing the pins to touch the screen.
It looks like the keypad couldn`t bend to touch the screen but it just slips off one edge.
SE must know this by now, how much would it cost to change the keypad to be a bit stronger around the flips hinge area, as this would completely solve the problem. if you try it, it bends out near the hinge & keypad moves accross. hope they accept responcibility for this fault soon.

I believe SE known this problem already and if it's officially launch in more and more countries like Asia and more & more people using it, they'll get lots of returns if they don't modify the keypad as you said.

Hope they can replace the LCD for me free of charge : )

Thanks again for your help.

No company will insure my p800 in the UK, because it`s technically not available here.
If anyone knows of insurance for a p800 in UK please let me know, btw i am aware that some household policys cover phones.
Reminder; milk, sugar, crisps, post letter.

This happend to me this week

I dont know what happend with it. I had it in my pocket and when I got a call I took it out of my pocket and it scared the hell out of me. I send it to a repair centre here in the Netherlands but i'm not sure if they got the spare parts here.

@ Brimme - how long ago did we have this discussion, do you remember?

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=15780&forum=2&start=20

Hope you'll be luckier with repair since the p800 is now officially released in the NL, although I wouldn't be surprised if they're not ready to service it yet (no spare parts in the country). It's been barely days in the market and neither logistics nor service is a strength of the SE organization. You should tell me if I was wrong.

I'm thinking what's the best way to protect the screen in the future, any advice?

Hi alfacom,

I would suggest a case for the phone would be the best way to protect the screen. Is the one that comes with the P800 not good enough? If not then I would recommend the Piel Frama case. They are well made and solid enough to stop the screen from being damaged.

hi all,

Monday evening and I just picked my baby up in stockholm - so here's the promised update on the screen repair.

It turns out that even once they got the missing spare part (apparently it took nearly 3 weeks to get the lcd from SE), they couldn't repair the phone - so it went back to SE and GEAB replaced the whole box for a brand new one...

The cost for the repair/replacement came to SEK 1500 ex VAT, SEK 1875 incl VAT.

Take good care of those screens!
