My friend at ST-E compared it to a Sony Bravia LCD TV with an almost transparent view through the phone.
Not too bad, that comparison
Btw Rog, how do you think (without saying anything specific) the SE 2012 line is shaping up? Do you think they can compete better than this year? |

It surely must be the back. Never heard of any proto having a white plastic cover as a place holder for screen. Aalso who in their right mind would have a laterally convex screen?
The white plastic is hopefully something thrown in to confuse us like a battery cover from the white variant and the main body from the black variant. If it's actually designed to be released like that I may just sit this one out.
That clear strip is (like I said before) just like the T650 notification light bar which shone beautifully. Although this looks less well designed.
Neither X1, X10 nor Arc (I'm pretty sure the others don't either) have Xperia in a 3D relief like this. I think This is the only positive to take from this design.
I am kind of wondering what that tiny nubble is on the end under the dudes finger. Looks like a 3.5mm socket to me, any light from anyone?

I am pretty sure that leaked photo IS the front, see the XPERIA engraved into the plastic that is typical for the xperia line for the xperia logo to be at the bottom of the front of the handset in the centre.
If it was the back then the xperia logo would be along the back in the centre (when the phone is rotated in landscape) unless they've changed the design that has to be the bottom of the front!
Could the reason there are no keys, is because the phone will run on android 4.0 which requires no physical buttons?

Good point! It is still puzzling though why they would need to cover the front of the phone like that - I'm baffled as it doesn't look like any other phones in the portfolio other than something with the same form-factor as the Pureness.

I'm still not convinced, look at the curve, it is classic human curvature to be rounded along the sides of the back, it make the phone 'feel' thinner in the hand. I believe it's the bottom of the back and as a white battery cover. It's less of a design change to put the xperia logo on the bottom than it is to curve the front outwardly. It's also much less weird.
If you look at the way the reflections distort closer to the edges it's clear its not at all a mild convex curvature.

To me it looks (feels) like a SONY (Not SE) product with an XPERIA logo!
Hopefully my feeling is wrong. |

Well shall see, I just can't see that imo.
Just a thought but it is interesting that the white isn't actually in the centre of the phone and equal at the edge. What I mean is, at the bottom left of the picture you can see a black strip and the white doesn't go right to the edge, where as on the other side (top right of the picture) it does, which could be down to the angle of the phone when the photo was taken, but the transparent strip and black ingraved xperia part line up with the wite on one side, but not the other. Which is interesting because it should be symmetrical (the white should go to the edge on both sides, or there be a black strip on both sides instead) which would suggest to me that it is actually not part of the phone. But something the guy has placed on top of the screen. Don't know why he'd do this, maybe just to confuse us? thoughts?

@adsada
I'm pretty certain it's just the way photo has been taken. I can produce almost exactly the same image if I switch my white and black X10 battery covers.
Edit: I can even get the 3.5mm nubble at the top in the same way.

IT IS THE BACK OF THE DEVICE!
Why is it so hard to get round it. If it is the front, there is LOTS of empty space! And no, the white plastic is not the screen, because it is PLASTIC!

Quite off topic but here is some evidence that I'm not a big fan of Qualcomm mobile solution. It's below average performer and only dual core which is not use Cortex A9 instruction, only double Cortex A8 in one chip. Cheap tech but sell expensive

I just got some interesting info that the picture shown with the white plastic is gonna be powered by ST-Ericsson SoC and will be launched in spring time. He has seen the device upfront as an engineer at ST-E. No words on name but the size was rougly the same as HTC Legend 3,5-3,7". All dual core.
Nice, mali400>adreno 220

Lets wait and see....Hopefully if sony ericsson chooses st-ericsson,they will choose the a9540 or the a9600 platform, and not the a9500.
Mali400 a single core maybe ahead of Adreno 220 (referred back to Aurelius's report a months ago) but I'm curious how it will perform against Adreno 225 in next year release because Mali400 initially launch in early 2009 but no one adopt it until Samsung jump in and goes for Mali400MP which quad unit and one of the most powerful graphic chip in market but still can't catch up to PowerVR543MP2's power in A5
Earilest of A9600 which paired up with PowerVR sixth generation will available in 2013, maybe they could make some sale with 2012's survivor
Possible next year release could be Nova A9500 combined with Thor M5730 modem which reasonable but will not be high among competitor in same market because A9500 still use 45nm manufacturing and A9540 is 32nm which same as Exynos 4212 newly announced from Samsung.

The u9540 has 4xtimes the graphics performance of u8500 and is manufactured at 32nm,while it clocks at 1.85GHz.If uses something like that,it will definately should be on par with galaxy s3 and better than the H1 2012 qualcomm-powered smartphones, since most of them will use the adreno 220 gpu and will be clocked at 1.5ghz.Krait goes for sampling this quarter,so i dont expect krait-running smartphones to hit before june 2012 and those will most likely be manufactured my HTC since they are the first to use the latest qualcomm chipsets.
Again,if we judge by last year, when the Desire HD was using the processor that all 2011 xperia are using, 2012 flagship smartphones are likely gonna use the processor that sensation XE is using now. |
